New Age Fiction Is A New Book Genre
When I started Changing Planes - a metaphysical fiction back in 2006, my goal wasn't to write an award winning novel, but I did. Named as a first place finalist in the USA Best Book Awards this past October, you could have knocked me over with a feather when I got the email.
Though I've written all my life -- and held on to a dream job back in the 80's as a managing editor of a small town historical California weekly -- I never imagined I'd win an award.
I write because I have to. It's like breathing to me. And when I don't get my writing fix, I find that my emails tend to be longer than normal. I've got articles all over this web, about most everything you can find, but the major themes tend to be metaphysical, spiritual, and law of attraction how-to's. Why? Because it works. It's that simple. The spiritual woo-hoo stuff works. It has for most of my life.
But that doesn't mean you'll catch me wearing a pyramid on my head! That's not what I'm talking about.
Long before Joseph Campbell became well-known for his study of myth and the well-known Hero's Journey, I'd already gulped down everything I could on Carl Jung and archteypes. I love symbology, I love storytelling and storycrafting in all it's forms: from a to z and everything in between.
Though I've written a non-fiction book that is available on Amazon, that is not where my heart truly lives. I live in a fantasy world, a world where anything is possible, and I live there in real life. And being a metaphysician fits right in.
Though I'm only in my mid-fifties, I've experienced a lot of things that most would consider to be fiction, but I know the truth -- that is why I choose fiction as my means of storytelling -- the truth would be too hard for most to believe.
I find that I love storytellers who know how to share a good yarn -- I'm not into Litter-A-Chure. I may not write like someone who has a PH.d (because I don't) but I write so that any man, woman, or child can read my stories -- as it should be.
In my opinion, the words should never get in the way of the story.
Story is king, queen, jack and joker in my life and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Changing Planes: A Literary Gem That Will Shift Your Perception of Reality
by Sandra Carrington-Smith, author
When I received my order from Amazon, I was relieved the book was not too long, and I figured I would read it in a just a few days. As it turned out, I couldn't put it down, and I finished reading it the next day.
I don't think words can properly convey what I gained from reading this book, and since I believe that each person benefits differently from the same experience, I won't bore you with details of why this book is just so amazing to me - I will let you decide for yourself how it will affect your life.
Changing Planes tells the story of Madison, a young and ambitious VP of an upper scale department store. The moment Madison reaches her gate and waits to board a plane headed to the Caribbean, odd things begin to happen, but she quickly quiets her screaming intuition down with a pacifier of rational explanations. Strange occurrences continue after the plane takes off, and they rapidly escalate until Madison has two choices - she can ignore the gifts given to her and continue her life with a limited perception, or she can embrace a new reality and change her world.
The end of the book is jarring to the senses, as the reader awakens to the awareness of how choices made throughout life can deeply affect every step of our journey. Our lives are so intricately interconnected with those of others that a small change can alter the course of many destinies.
Changing Planes made me laugh and cry, but mostly it gave me the opportunity to take an honest glimpse deep down within my own soul. As I held the book in my hand, I felt almost as if Universe had gifted me with an extra chip to play a more exciting game.
Laurie Brenner's style of writing is delightful and easy to follow, sprinkled with just enough humor to make it appealing to the young and old alike, and her spiritual lessons are powerful enough to make the story unforgettable.
Changing Planes is not just a story; it can be YOUR story, if you dare to look within with an open mind and a heart ready for personal transformation.

Trees Really Do Talk
The fear of falling welled up in my throat and tightened into an aching lump.
"Not to worry, dear, you can't fall and plummet to the earth here. In fact, we don't even need the disc, but this will help you through the next moments."
Grandfather answered my unspoken thoughts.
"Step lightly and stand still."
I stepped up and stood still, all the while keeping my eyes closed. I didn't care if my grandfather held my hand-I was scared.
"That wasn't so bad, now was it?"
I didn't feel anything yet still didn't open my eyes.
"Are we moving grandpa?"
"No, we're here now, step down."
I opened my eyes and stepped down. What greeted me took my breath away. Every which way I looked I saw complete beauty. The colors of everything were so vibrant, bright, and luminous.
"Are you sure this isn't heaven?" I asked.
We stood in front of a small creek. To my right the creek meandered through green trees that breathed in and out, as they plunged their roots deep into the earth.
"The trees are breathing!"
"Of course they are, they're alive, and they have consciousness. Would you like to talk to a tree?"
"I can talk to a tree?
"Sure!"
At my answer, the tree nearest me wavered and the shape of a body flash-forwarded, like the trails of a mouse on a computer, and walked towards me. A willowy and etheric female stood before me in human form.

So What's This New Age Fiction Story About Anywhooo?
It's about parallel universes, life after death, or the world between life and death
After flight 41 passes through a weaving curtain of light in the twilight sky, a series of events unfold that will leave Madison at an airport terminal hung between the worlds of the living and the dead.
It is here that she is greeted by her long-deceased grandfather who will accompany her part of the way on her spiritual journey between worlds. It is because she avoids the painful secrets buried deep within her own heart that she finds herself thrust upon this journey of the spirit.
