An enlarged prostate is a common disorder that is found in middle age men. A statistical report shows that more than 50 percent of American men who are around the age of fifty or sixty are facing this disorder. Overlooking this disorder can lead to serious conditions, such as kidney damage, urinary bladder damage, kidney stones, and urinary track infections. What is an enlarged prostate? An enlarged prostate is a condition when the prostate glands, that surround the urethra and sit behind the urinary bladder, start increasing in size. When the prostate glands enlarge, it squeezes the urinary tube called the urethra, and the flow of urine is interrupted and the bladder is not in a position to empty to its full extent. As it interrupts the urine flow, you may experience pain during urination and even face trouble starting the flow of urination or stopping it. If the bladder is not fully emptied you may frequently feel the need to urinate. Not being able to urinate is a major problem caused by the enlarged prostate. In order to solve the problem you must reduce the tissue that is enlarged around the prostate glands.
Causes of an enlarged prostate:
Hormone imbalance: A dramatic increase in weight for middle aged men in the abdomen area and shrinkage of muscle mass may be the main factor for hormonal imbalances. As men age, the production of testosterone hormone is reduced and the estrogen, a female hormone, increases, this hormone imbalance can lead to cell growth that causes the prostate to enlarge.
Cell growth: Increase in cell growth leads to enlargement of prostate glands.
Obesity: Research shows that having an uncontrolled diet, which contains high saturated fats and Trans fats can cause a hormonal imbalance and result in an enlarged prostate. Studies say that high consumption of calories will indirectly stimulate enlargement of prostate glands.
Mineral deficiency: Prostate glands normally require a high amount of zinc to function. Unfortunately, if your diet contains low levels of zinc it can cause the prostate glands to enlarge.
Genetic: Also, a cause for prostate enlargement can be inherited from family members.
Testosterone: This is a male hormone and its deficiency can cause the prostate to enlarge. Its deficiency can be from the high amount of by-product prolactin of testosterone in men, which stimulates a high production of enzyme alpha reductose that results in a conversion of high amounts of the testosterone hormone into di hydro testosterone causing the enlarged prostate.
