BRAC Basics
BRAC is the acronym for the government's decision to reorganize its bases. It's a lot easier and faster to say than Base Realignment and Closure. While BRAC affects several locations, the Aberdeen Proving Ground base is the location closest to me and the one I know the most about.
By 2011, Fort Monmouth's military installation will leave New Jersey for Aberdeen. Jobs will begin trickling into the area well before then. The military expects many jobs to be relocated as soon as 2008.
Despite the fact that as many as 6,000 jobs are coming to Harford County, many of the current workers filling those jobs are not. This means that there will be a lot of job openings. 1,800 of the jobs are contractor positions, so non-military locals may want to dust off their resumes!
