A Healing Ashram
Many people like to volunteer at the Ashram, as a matter of fact, this is how the majority of it was built and is maintained. Such jobs as gardening, cooking, cleaning, painting, solar repair, computer help, shop keeping, and other outdoor help is always appreciated. Longer distance help can be given through web updating. We have been built by donations and sales from the Maha Lakshmi Shop. To be in touch with us, send a donation, or just learn more, here is the contact info:

About the Ashram and Mahaavatar Babaji (Haidakhan Baba)
The Haidakhandi Universal Ashram is located in Crestone, Colorado on 101 acres of pristine land at an altitude of 8,500 feet in the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Although located three hours or more away from major metropalitan areas (Denver, Colorado Springs, Albuquerque), thousands of people come here every year seeking spiritual nourishment and healing from spiritual, mental, and physical pain. The facility is totally off-the-grid (uses solar electricity), has sustainably-built (straw bale or old tires) buildings, its own water system from the pure Spanish Creek, and a quarter acre organic garden, orchard, and greenhouse. There is overnight or long-term housing available, a shop (The Maha Lakshmi Shop) that sells devotional and gift items from India, and the magnificent temple to the Divine Feminine (Maha Lakshmi ) where chanting, ceremony, and meditation takes place. We have many groups of people that come to the Ashram to learn not only about Babaji, the Divine Mother and our spiritual practice here, but also about living in community, living off-the-grid, sustainable building, organic gardening and cooking, and living in balance with nature. Students as young as kindergarten and adults as old as senior citizens learn about a new way of life. Many families find the Ashram to be a nurturing haven for support, learning, love, devotion, and community. We have a family week once a year which brings in families from around the country. We have children programs monthly as well as celebrations honoring the children twice a year. For more information please visit our website at www.babajiashram.org.
The Ashram has been built by the inspiration of our teacher, Haidakhan Babaji who is said to be a Mahaavatar (descent of Divinity on to earth) who comes from time to time in history when humankind is in need of spiritual upliftment or reminders of how to live a life in balance with all of creation. His most recent appearance was from 1970 to 1984. His teachings are universal and simple: to live lives of truth, simplicity, and love; to serve all of creation; to repeat the name of God that is in your heart; and to be good human beings. He said all religions lead to God if you follow them wholeheartedly and that what was needed now was humanitarianism not spiritual hypocrisy. Life at His Ashram in India was simple and He was always there for the poorest villager or the richest business person. There are charitable hospitals at both of His main Ashrams in Northern India as well as schools for the poor village children.
Mission Statement of the Haidakhandi Universal Ashram
We aspire to live the Teachings of Haidakhan Baba, to share the Love of Babaji and the Divine Mother with others, to hold this Ashram as Their Home, to serve humanity, and to be stewards and caretakers of the land. Serving Children and Families is a big part of the Ashram.
Honoring the Children at the Divine Mother Festival

Each Spring and Fall for nine days, we celebrate the Divine Mother Festival giving thanks for all that She gives us. This is called Navratri. On one of the last days, we honor all of the children for the aspects of divinity they carry so naturally within themselves. We give them crowns, veils or clothes, malas, food, sweets, money, and other small gifts. When we ask them what the Divine Mother means to them, we receive such answers as: She is love. She is Mother Earth and we must take care of Her. She protects us and takes care of us. She gives us rain so that our food can grow.
Many families come to the Ashram both from the local community and from around the country. Here families find a very child friendly place where they can gain support, education, nurturing, community, and network with other families.
Buildings at the Ashram
We Build with Sustainable Materials whenever possible.

In keeping with Babaji's teachings to live simply on this earth, we are off-the-grid and our buildings are constructed with primarily all sustainable materials.
The first image is of our temple which is predominantley strawbale with adobe floors and solar heat and electricity.
The second is of our strawbale dormitory that has adobe floors and walls, five rooms and bathrooms.
Next is our greenhouse built with strawbale, pumas, and rock wall.
Fourth is the Earthship which is built with old tires rammed with earth and old aluminum cans filled with sand. This passive solar building has solar electricity.
Fifth is our strawbale hermitage that houses one of the Ashram residents.
Finally is the oldest building on the Ashram, a wood-framed yurt which is primarily used for summer overflow of visitors.
