Need A Great Gift Idea For Welcoming A New Baby?...How About One Of These Baby Cakes

Given the latest theme for the squidoo"Get Cracking" lens-a-day-challenge which is "Cake" I was a bit mortified as I'm not the greatest cook in the world and my "know-how" on baking cakes is "know-not-much", the only cakes I ever bake myself are fairy-cakes and there are already tonnes of lenses with excellent recipes for those. So on went my thinking cap once again to come up with a unique idea for the Cake themed challenge.

And this lens is what I came up with, a unique cake especially for babies..yep, Baby Cakes. The idea came to me when i called my 12 yr old daughter Bobbi to ask her to throw some cake ideas at me, as soon as i called her the idea was right there as the name i use for Bobbi is ..yep you've got it I call Bobbi "Baby Cake"..why I didn't think of it sooner i've no idea. I didn't have to give it another thought as i knew exactly what kind of cake a baby-cake is because when my new Grandson Jay was born someone bought him a Baby Cake as a new-baby gift.

So there you have it, this lens will show you exactly what a baby cake is, and hopefully it will give you a gift idea for when you need to buy a gift for a new baby in the future. Baby cakes are available ready made to buy but I think you will agree that the idea is so simple that they can be made by you at home and then you can choose your own contents to put inside the baby cake.

What Is A Baby Cake

A baby cake is made using baby nappies/diapers rolled up and loaded with baby accesories such as brush and comb, dummies/pacifiers, socks and vests etc, the baby cake can have as many tiers as you like and is easily built by piling up each cake and tying with silk ribbons in the colours of your choice...the bought baby cakes have set items in them but I think it is so much nicer and more personal to make your own baby cake using your own choice of baby items to fill it with.

Of course you don't have to use nappies/diapers to build a baby cake yourself as you can always use shawls, baby-blankets or pram & crib sheets..i much prefer these as the basis of a home made baby cake as they are items which every songle new mother needs and can definitely put to good use whereas the baby cakes which are bought have nappies/diapers as the basis and you cannot be sure that you will be giving them the nappies which they will be using..so for that reason i go with the home made ones..but then again I always choose home made over shop bought in everything so maybe i'm just being baised there...lol

For those of you who would like to give it a go and make their own unique baby cake I will be adding videos showing step-by-step instructions showing you how to make one a little further down this lens.

And for those of you that like the idea but would sooner buy a ready-made baby cake i shall be adding links to places on Amazon where you will be able to view various made-up styles, colours and contents before choosing and buying one. .

There is no doubt that baby-cakes are a great baby shower gift.

I am sure we are all in agreement that baby-shower cakes are a great gift to take along for new babies, boy or girl arn't we!. But although we all would love to give one as our gift they can work out expensive when we buy them ready-made...some as much as $160 which, although full of super baby-stuff really would only cost a fraction of that...roughly $50 dollars or so for the same contents when bought by ourselves at the baby store.

So, would you rather pay for some-one else to make the baby-cake and buy it ready-made to be sure of a professional touch which saves all the time, shopping trip and bother of making your own... or, would you appreciate that ready-made baby-cakes although rather nice, are far too expensive and full of baby-stuff that perhaps your recipient won't ever use and so would rather buy the individual items yourself for the cake-filling which you know your chosen baby needs and will use for sure...plus you will make it with real love which counts for a lot...as well as saving yourself more than triple the cost?

Pre-made by a professional defo , so what if they're more expensive because a lot of work has gone into making it look perfect.

Defo made by me at hom, I've watched the vid tutorials on this lens & it's so simple to get a professional look and I can add my own choice of fillings so that it is perfect inside as well as outside....nothing to it

    I love them! Have to fess up that I'd never heard of them until late last year. Three kids of my own and no cool diaper cake when any of them was born???!!! Very nice job on the lens. :)

    Oh, I absolutely love these! They are so cute and creative. Several of my daughters friends are getting married and we all know what "showers" will begin next. I will definitely need to remember this idea. Awesome! Angel Blessed and added to my Squid Angel Mouse Tracks lens.

    I am surprised to see how many people make diaper cakes! I had an internet friend who has been doing this and teaching people how to do it for years:-) When I can I'll lensroll into my lens about cake for people who hate to bake, this is one you don't have to bake...lol 5stars ~claudia

    It's a wonderful idea. You certainly know how to think outside the box, just like the folks who came up with the idea to create such a product. The intro picture is really beautiful, I love it. 5 stars.

    This is way too creative -- I have been away from babies for long enough; that I had not a clue as to what baby cakes were. Thanks for increasing my educational quotient for all things baby. Very nicely done. 5 babycakes, 1 bird, 1 face and a lens roll to my parenting monkey brains lens. Great job.
