Baby Blanket Patterns for Knitting and Crochet

Ranked #9,758 in Arts & Design, #175,305 overall

If you are new to knitting or crochet, you may have decided to try your hand at this excellent art because of all the adorably cute baby items you can make. In fact, making baby items is a great place for beginners to start because of their small size. I particularly recommend getting started with baby blanket patterns because they are easy to follow and create. There are many excellent baby blanket pattern books that can help you choose the perfect pattern to start with. There are also a large number of free patterns online that you can use.

After choosing your pattern, you should get yourself properly prepared for your new project by purchasing the supplies most suitable for the knit or crochet of baby blanket patterns. It is very important when creating a baby blanket to use baby yarn because is it thinner and softer and will not hurt the baby or feel itchy and scratchy on their gentle skin. You may also want to use smaller gauge needles, which causes the yarn to be more tightly knit and will not allow the baby to slip their tiny fingers through the holes. Safety is always a concern when knitting or crocheting for babies.

What about color? Color is always a very important consideration when creating items for babies. Most people tend to settle for the usual pink for girls and blue for boys, but this can get a bit boring in my opinion and does not help those who are creating an item for an unborn baby whose gender is not yet known. A classic white yarn is always beautiful and looks exquisite, but I prefer a more fun and lively look by creating a mix of beautiful colors. Let your imagination and creativity be your guide!

Where can I find the pattern for the green blanket that is shown here?

Are you a fellow artist?

All crocheters or knitters believe that their art form is the most beautiful and versatile. Some say one's easier and faster; others, more elegant and fashionable. I believe that both can compliment each other, this is clearly shown by the many combination patterns that you can find out there. Every person is different, however, and may find one craft easier than the other.

So, what is the difference between knitting and crochet?

Crochet is extremely versatile and popular for making a large range of fashion and home decor items. You can make light weight fabric by using softer yarns or sturdy fabric (for home decor) by using thicker yarns. In order to crochet all you need is a continuous strand of yarn and a needle with a hook. Crochet stitches are made with loops by wrapping yarn around the hook. The loops are drawn through the wrapped yarn to make the stitches. You can crochet in rows that keep your fabric flat or combine stitches and work in the round for raised textures.

Knitting has always been the favorite for making sweaters because of the detail that is possible and because the stitches produce a soft and drapable fabrid. The two basic stitches are the knit and purl and they can be work alone or be worked together. Unlike crochet, knitting requires two needles and a continuous strand of yarn. The basic stitches are created using both needles, wrapping the yarn over one needle and drawing the wrapped yarn through loops on the other needle.
