Insider Secret #1 The "Don't Mess With Me" Woman
But In A Nice Sort Of Way...
Don't Mess With Me
Baby Boomer women are a vastly underserved market of over 40 million people. Successful marketing to us has to be targeted to educated, relatively affluent career women. But most of it isn't.
Grandmothers Are Not What They Used To Be.
We have a very different world now than when we used to visit Grandma. A lot of us have worked as executives in the last several years, maverick types. To target us, ads need to target the "Don't Mess With Me" woman.
We can and have handled just about everything. Like Arwen, in Lord Of The Rings, we believe we can ride like the wind. We still think of ourselves as her age, immortal, strong and beautiful-and we are, each of us in our own way.

Insider Secret #2 We Are Late Bloomers
Remember, We Were Once Hippies
We Are Late Bloomers
We are not obsessed with having it all - being the perfect mother, the perfect executive, and having the perfect home. That's when we were 30-something. And we certainly are not reading things like "How To Loose 10 Pounds In 10 Days." That's when we were 20-something.
Remember, We Were Once Hippies
Because we were once hippies or thought we could have been, we got behind. We didn't go straight into graduate school right out of college. We did that much later. So by the time we hit 45, we were finally very close to where we wanted to be.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
After grad school, and five or six years after that, many of us were where we were trying to go. We had arrived, as they say. So don't patronize us. We get respect from everyone else now. The marketing industry needs to catch up.
Insider Secret #3 Please Stop Marketing Pants With An Elastic Waistband
Here's the skinny on our waistline
We're Not Looking For Slacks With An Elastic Waistband
We care about style and we can afford it. We like to look energetic and fit. We talk to each other about plastic surgery, our next career, making more retired than hired, and we challenge ourselves professionally and personally.
So we want to dress the way we think. The way we think is youthful. We make plans for the future, we are optimists, we are into wellness and study nutrition. We do not intend to be old but we intend to live a long and fulfilling life.
Ride The Wave!
Big Business And Baby Boomer Women
OKAY, Now Here's The Next Big ThingWE are probably going to be the next big thing - women baby boomer entrepreneurs! By 2010, I predict that many of us will be like Colonel Sanders who made more in his second career after age 65.
Women make really great entrepreneurs. We work for other people usually but when women take that risk to become business owners, look out! We can ride that wave, especially now with the Internet to help us.
Surfs up! Let's get started! Learn to market yourself and your business. Just surf the internet for 5 minutes and you will find women entrepreneurs, many of us are 50 plus.
Make More "Retired" Than Hired!"
One of my mentors is Ann Sieg. She tells one of my very favorite stories about how she not only wanted to retire early but she wanted to make enough money in multi-level marketing (MLM) to retire her husband early too! And she did! But not the usual MLM way, the renegade way. She leveraged herself by working at home, building her MLM online.
Colonel Sanders Didn't Have What We Have
Colonel Sanders is another entrepreneur who made more retired than hired and he didn't even have the Internet Web 2.0 advantage. We do. We also understand what women baby boomers like so we have that huge advantage as well. Knowing your target market is a gold mind especially if they are us!

- I love your lens! It's so fun to hear from women who are just getting started instead of starting to stop. I am 57, trying to start a new business and just got a motorcycle driving license. I can't even think about getting old!! Every now and then I wonder if I shouldn't be doing these things and then I throw that thought right out the window.Yeah us!!!

- Great lens. I particularly like your thoughts on women baby boomer entrepreneurs. The development of baby boomers becoming entrepreneurs as late Bloomers is a major shift in life that is just becoming visible. Just like you suggesting that baby boomer women don't want pants with elastic, baby boomers don't seem to want retirement as it has been defined in the past. A new form of work life balance is being forged as the result.
Good luck with your lens.

- Great lens, so much to absorb. I linked from my own baby-boomers 'aging is perception' lens, and found a goldmind! I had to favor it so I can return to reread and think about your offer.
We rock!

- Saw a link to this by Squidcast on Twitter. Glad to see you're exploring our amazing potential in so many ways. Have you noticed how many of us are also concerned about more than our personal needs and desires? A lot of us are still very intent on saving the world. Now that our babies are grown and well established, we're making the time to do it, too.
