    I've been to Cancun before but not Bacalar. I know where I'm going when I return.

    The history is amazing - I haven't added that section yet but after being a fort to protect from pirates there was a maya rebellion against the spanish in the late 1800's where they took over the same fort and occupied bacalar apart from Mexico for a number of years...

    Amazing photos and history. I'd love to explore ancient mayan ruins while enjoying the tropical sun. It looks like an amazing place. I'll check it out for sure!
