What is Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a totally natural procedure and is one which most of us will be familiar with, but in rather different circumstances. We are all familiar with "day dreaming" or "gazing into space" for example, when our conscious mind has wandered from the task in hand to occupy itself with other matters. Many drivers will also recognise the rather unnerving experience of "coming to" on a long and boring motorway journey and wondering how far they have travelled since they were last "conscious" of driving the car. These events can be described as us experiencing alternative states of consciousness. We haven't been asleep and if anything required our attention we would have responded but we just weren't "here" for a time. The hypnotic state is just such an alternate state which we allow ourselves to enter and is one of profound relaxation. In general terms, to achieve a state of hypnosis we must satisfy three prerequisites: we must want it to happen, expect it to happen and to help it to happen. If we do not want or expect it to happen or resist it in some way then it is virtually impossible to induce the hypnotic state in someone against their will. The reason that hypnosis is effective in therapy is that while our conscious minds are logical and calculating they are very limited in scope and taken up with dealing with what is happening to us in everyday life. Our unconscious minds, on the other hand, are uncritical, intuitive and very receptive to therapeutic suggestion and capable of working on these suggestions all the time in "the background" while we get on with life. Hypnosis deals with this unconscious aspect of our mind.

How do I access Hypnotherapy in Banbury

Hypnotherapy in Banbury, the process

While The Paloma Centre in Banbury will accept referrals from Commercial concerns, General Practitioners and other medical professionals both within the National Health Service and Private Practice, the majority of clients are individuals who make contact having made a decision that they should "do something" about a particular issue that concerns them.

The Paloma Centre offers a positive, supportive, non-judgmental approach to resolving life-limiting issues, enabling clients to move forward through life in a more rewarding manner.

Initial Consultation

The first consultation is normally reserved for a detailed discussion of the issue of concern and of gathering whatever information is relevant about the client and the history of the presenting issue. In return the therapist will fully brief the client on any proposed therapy and its implications and agree with the client its duration and likely cost. The therapist will explain what he will require the client to do over this period and satisfy any questions that the client may have with any aspect of the ongoing relationship. If hypnosis is to be utilised at any point the therapist will use this opportunity to fully explain, and possibly demonstrate, all aspects of this relaxing therapy.

Subsequent Consultations

The therapist will have drawn up a plan for completing the therapy within the agreed time and will now begin to implement that plan. The plan, in addition to the fixed meetings, may include "homework" tasks for the client such as keeping records of behaviour or changes, or listening to therapy tapes to supplement the fixed sessions. The client's commitment to undertaking these tasks is essential to the successful outcome of the programme.

Once the agreed number of sessions is complete the therapist will review the current position with the client and the client can then decide whether or not there is any requirement for extending the programme. The decision is entirely with the client. The therapeutic process is entirely voluntary on the client's part and will cease whenever the client wishes.

Before any therapy is undertaken the therapist will clarify to the client the understanding on which therapy will take place including the methods, duration and confidentiality of the process.

Thank you for such clear and frank information about hypnotherapy. I've attempted it twice and had it work once and your comment about "wanting it to work" are very much in line with my experience.

Hi. I have been interested in Advanced EFT lately. I believe in the idea that most diseases are caused by emotional baggage carried by the person. I hope many will also be interestered to join in the EFT training as well as to download the eft training manual.
