Toe Rings and Other Things!

A look at the growing trend of foot jewlery, and the options available.  LIke we always say, "if toes are going to show, they should look good, and we can help!"

What is a toe ring?

A toe ring is a piece of jewelry specially sized for wear on the toe. Many different styles of toe rings are available, and they utilize several types of materials. Toe rings can be made of sterling silver, 14K gold, platinum, titanium, and even base metals. Toe rings are typically either "fitted/sized" or "adjustable." Fitted/sized toe rings are full-bands, just like finger rings, though their dimensions are scaled down to be comfortable for toe wear. "Adjustable" toe rings generally are not full bands, and have a gap in the back to accomodate most any size toe. Some toe rings are called "illusion" toe rings. Illusion toe rings have a charm attached to a piece of stretch cord (see photo.) The stretch cord is almost invisible, so the charm appears to be "floating" on the toe. Typically, toe rings are worn with open-toed shoes, but a properly sized fitted toe ring may be worn in closed toe shoes, year round. To view more toe rings, please visit Barefoot Bling .

What is the Meaning of a Toe Ring?

Will I be sending a message?

Does a toe ring carry a meaning? Not in western countries. In the west, toe rings are simply a fashion statement, and one that is growing in popularity among both women and men. The closest thing to a "toe ring meaning" in the west can be seen in some surfer communities, where sporting a toe ring is practically a requirement!

In India, however, toe rings are traditionally worn by married women, and often incorporated into the wedding ceremony.

Toe rings and foot jewelry, including anklets and barefoot sandals , have become fashionable wedding attire in the west, especially as a "finishing touch" for beach or garden weddings. Brides can find toe ring stacks that resemble "wedding sets," or have jewelry pieces custom made for themselves and their bridesmaids in the colors of the wedding. Many of these choices are available online at Barefoot Bling

Toe Ring FAQs

Where do you wear a toe ring ? The second toe is typically the most comfortable place, due to the spacing of it with the big toe, but really, it's a matter of personal preference. Some people enjoy toe rings on several toes. Toe rings are also most often worn just below the toe pad and above the first knuckle of the toe. This placement keeps the ring from hitting the ground too much when walking. Again, though, personal preference comes into play, as some individuals prefer their toe rings down toward the bottom of the toe. So, the answer is, wherever someone likes the ring and it feels comfortable is where it should be worn.

Will a toe ring fall off? If it fits properly, it should stay in place. Most people have a pad under the tip of the toe that prevents the ring from slipping off. However, if you do not have a pad near the top of your toe, you might want to remove your toe ring when bathing or swimming. Additionally, a toe ring should not be able to be removed without lubricating the toe and working with it to take it off. If the ring slides on and off easily, it is likely too large. Toe rings that are too large, are easily lost or damaged. On the other hand, if you cannot easily spin your toe ring on your toe, it is too small. Toe rings should spin to allow for daily natural swelling of the feet. If well sized, your fitted toe ring should be totally comfortable after it is worn for about 24 hours.
