If You Like the Three "J's"--Judo, Japan, and Jazz... And Thriller Novels that Keep You on the Edge of Your Seat--

You'll like novels by Barry Eisler!

Barry Eisler says that his stories revolve around his main interests: Judo, Japan, and Jazz.  Although my interests are just a tad different (I like karate/aikido/iado--martial arts; I like Japan!; and, I like Japanese Jazz --but also Japanese folk music), I like Barry Eisler's novels.

Barry brings a lot to the table when he writes. Not only did he get a degree in law, but he also worked with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) before moving to live in Japan for a while to study Judo in the birthplace of the martial art.

His fascination with the "forbidden knowledge" and his active imagination started with a common scene in Japan--watching two fellows follow another fellow down a street... and turned into his first novel.  The other novels have been coming out as natural results of that first one.

All of Barry Eisler's novels are page-turners. They are thrillers. They keep you on the edge of your seat.

Eisler's novels are exciting. They are exotic. And they are addictive!

John Rain--Barry Eisler's Main Character

John Rain is Barry Eisler's main character in his books. He is a troubled assassin--one who sometimes questions why he does what he does. But also a professional assassin who is very cold, cool, and good at what he does.

John Rain is an interesting character--he's half Caucasion and half Japanese. He can mix into either of the two cultures and blend in such that he's unnoticeable. This makes him even more lethal at his job.

The characters that John Rain interacts with are also interesting. Sometimes it's extremely distressing when they are "taken out" of the picture. They were so well-written that as a reader, I was becoming "attached to them".

If you want to add more interest to your vacation or weekend, be sure to grab one or more of Barry Eisler's novels for the duration. It will be sure to keep you turning those pages!

Hi, Here I am again. My maiden name is Eisler. Big family!!! This was interesting! My husband has just finished writing his first book. I guess I'll have to try. Maybe it's in the genes. Come to see my "staycation" and see what you think. Could I? Write a book, I mean. I'm definitely going to try to read one of Barry's books! 5 *****

About EditorDave

Living on Guam is what now "defines" me.  It was such a dramatic difference in my life and outlook on things that there's no way I'd be the same if I had remained in New Mexico or any of the rest of the U.S. Mainland.   One of the classes I took at the University of Guam was "Scientific and Technical Writing and Editing"... I did not realize at the time that this class would be setting the foundation for the rest of my working life.  I found that I *love* words and fooling around with making them work as best as possible.  I also took classes in formal linguistics at the University of Guam--and took classes in Japanese, Russian, Mandarin Chinese. These classes helped me to become comfortable with working with translations of technical material into English from other languages.  I can help folks with making their words work for the particular audience they are writing for.
