Tech tip of the week....

It's very important to remember to keep the inside of your computer case clean and free of dust. Excessive build up of dirt and dust can clog fans and cause overheating issues. With the computer turned off and unplugged, simply use a can of compressed air and spray out the inside your case every 2-3 months. Just remember, do NOT shake the can, as this can cause the liquid propellent to come out along with the air. Heat is a major issue when it comes to the life not only of your computer, but any electronic device. If you keep them clean, then they will run much cooler and last you much longer.

Virus & Spyware warning!

Virus and spyware infections are at least 50% responsible for all of the computer repairs that I see on a weekly basis. There are several Trojan viruses that seem to be gaining in popularity during the recent months. One is from a program called Antivirus XP 2008. This is NOT an actual virus removal tool, nor are any of it's variants. It also goes by the the name of Antispyware 2008, or XP Antivirus 2009. These programs will generate false claims about infections on your pc in order to gain access to your credit card and other personal information. They will tell you that you need to order their product in order to remove all of the infections on your computer. Again, these are very dangerous programs and they need to be recognized before they cause damage to your computer. It is being spread currently via email and pop ups on websites telling you that you need to download their product. They can also infect your computer by what is called a "Drive by download". If you simply visit their website for a few seconds, their software will automatically install on your computer without any action on your part. Stay alert and stay safe!
