Battery Park City

Battery Park City is a 92-acre planned community at the southern end of lower Manhattan in New York City. It was built.on the Hudson River using 1.2 million cubic yards of dirt and rocks excavated during the construction of the World Trade Center. It is essentially a land fill. Today, about 10,000 people live in Battery Park City.

The residential neighborhoods of Battery Park City are divided into a north and south section. The southern section, extends from teh World Financial Center all the way to Wagner Park. The northern section, contains the newest residential buildings and is hemmed in by Chambers street. The neighborhood can accommodate approx 14,000 residents.

THe Battery Parks City Conservancy operates the park spaces in Battery Park. They manage nearly 36 acres of space. They oversee the maintenance of he space and organize community events in those spaces.

Battery Park City is home to several large commercial entities including American Express, NY Mercantile Exchange,the Ritz Carlton Hotel and the World Financial center which houses many small businesses and restaurants. There are also neighborhood businesses located on South End Avenue and North End Avenues. Goldman Sachs will call Battery Park City home.
