Bayonetta is a stylish, cinematic, single-player action game created by Platinum Games for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The 3D setting is a gothic, fictional city in Europe. You play as a witch from an ancient time trying to rediscover the secrets of her history. She can can utilize melee, ranged, and magical attacks, and, in time, shapeshifting, to defeat supernatural enemies. The action is fast paced and over-the-top. Her finishing moves - called "torture attacks" - feature such things as an iron maiden and guillotine.
Metacritic gives the Xbox360 version of this game a metascore of 93 (out of 100) based on 27 critic reviews. The PS3 version gets 90 based on 16 reviews.
Rated M for Mature due to blood and gore, intense violence, partial nudity, strong language, and suggestive themes.
