Top 5 Ways To See Cape Cod

Cape Cod By Land, Air, And Sea!

Though some people may prefer to drive and see Cape Cod attractions on their own schedule - others prefer tours conducted by professionals who know the area.

A professional tour guide, employed by a reputable company, can add a lot to your Cape Cod experience simply because you'll receive a wealth of information you wouldn't ordinarily get on your own.

Thankfully, if you choose to take this route, there are a number of businesses that offer top-notch professional tours as well as fun and interesting modes of transportation to many Cape Cod tourist attractions.

Here are the Top 5 Ways to See Cape Cod and a few good companies to lead the way.

  • Flying the Cape - Race Point Aviation, based at the Provincetown Municipal Airport, offers a truly unique experience with their scenic photo flight tours. The views from the windows of the prop plane offer great photo opportunities and the knowledgeable pilots offer commentary on points of interest.

  • Ride the Rails - Cape Cod Central Railroad offers several tour packages all of which offer great views, a knowledgeable crew, fun activities, and the experience of traveling by train.

  • Sailing Will Take You Away - The schooner Bay Lady II piloted by captain Bob Burns and crew will take you on a memorable crossing of Provincetown Harbor and into Cape Cod Bay. Enjoy the sound of the waves lapping against the hull as you spend two hours on the water enjoying some of the Cape's best natural beauty.

  • By Land and By Sea - Cape Cod Duckmobiles can take you places on the cape that other tours can't. See the sites and hear their stories with knowledgeable guides aboard WWII and Vietnam era amphibious vehicles.

  • Hoof It to Get Up Close and Personal - There is still no better way than putting one foot in front of the other to see many sites around the cape. Tour guides like those at the Provincetown Museum and Pilgrim Monument can be found at sites in communities throughout the Cape to offer the insight that only local professionals can offer.

Cape Cod Things To Do: Plimoth Plantation

Tour the Mayflower II

Cape Cod vacation packages don't always have to revolve around the beach or golf.

Why not enjoy a bit of history too?

The Mayflower II at Plimoth Plantation is one of the most talked about Cape Cod attractions - simply because it is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see exactly what life was like for those who made the arduous trans-Atlantic journey nearly 400 years ago.

The Mayflower II is a recreation of a real 17th century sailing vessel, just like the one the pilgrims sailed during their 1620 voyage to America. Everything from the ships rigging, made from hemp rope coated in tar, to the oak timber frame has been recreated with great care for historical accuracy to let you experience a bit of what the original passengers and crew experienced so long ago.

Visitors on board will find staff dressed in modern day clothing and able to answer any questions you have about the original ship or its reproduction, from a present day perspective. There are also role players, dressed in period costume, who will share their stories of shipboard life.

If you are at all interested in the history of our country, life at sea, the changing of perspectives over time or even if you just love boats - the Mayflower II is one of the Cape Cod tourist attractions that is well worth a visit.

And don't forget the camera. This is an experience you'll want to document in pictures.

What's summer on Cape Cod without a trip to the beach?

With so many Cape Cod beaches, it's hard to choose which one to visit first. Fortunately, we've found this list of must-see beach spots that are sure to please even the pickiest sun goddess.

Feast your eyes and pack a bathing suit:

1. West Dennis Beach: Located about mid-Cape and facing toward Buzzards Bay, West Dennis is perfect for families or beach-goers in search of solitude. The mile-long white sand beach is clean. the water temperature is mild, and the waves are gentle. There's even a snack stand and children's play area for the kiddies. Can't beat that!

2. Coast Guard Beach: Located in Nauset, Coast Guard Beach is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. It features big rolling waves and spectacular natural beauty. Coast Guard Beach is considered to be Cape Cod's premiere beach destination. Beware of drop offs and undertow.

3. Sandy Neck Beach: One of the most popular Cape Cod beaches around, Sandy Neck stretches six miles through Sandwich and Barnstable. Families love it for its open space - and so does the all-terrain crowd. Watch out for those buggies cruising the dunes.

4. Old Silver Beach: It may not be the biggest beach on Cape Cod, but Old Silver is certainly one of the most accessible. Just over the canal from the "mainland" Old Silver presents itself as one of the first quality beaches to appear.
