Using Polymer Clay to make embellishment for your craft project!!
There is lot of fun using clay mold, many project can be created from these molds, such as embellishment to decorative your handmade greeting card, Gift tag, Gift Box, Scrapbook page, Jewelry, beads, Altered Books or anything you can thinking of to use with. You may make a few finished pieces from mold and combine them as one project.
What can be use with my Polymer Clay Mold? You can use it with: Air Dry Clay, Paper Clay, Polymer Clay, Paper Mache, Craft Porcelain, PMC+ (this is a sliver clay require Kilns to fire, please don't fire mold with clay).
Please don't use the polymer clay mold with any hot liquid material such as: Hot Blue, Utee, was, soap, any kind or melt metal .
If you are using one sided mold, simply push a ball of well conditioned clay into mold (not too hard and not too soft), flatter the back against your hand or work surface (just don't push too hard), and then gently pull the clay out of the mold and trim the edges with a small knife, needle, or tooth pick. Or you can even use these tool to add more impression on your finished piece before bake.
Usually most molds will stick to clay and can distort the design when you pull the clay free. To avoid this problem you can use a release agent to make mold more easy to use.
Here is example of release agent:
Water,
Talcum powder / cornstarch (remember brushes off the finished pieces after firing),
Metallic powder (do double duty as a mold release and a decorative effect)
Clear seal, such as clay glaze or a gloss finish for easy release.(make sure you wait it totally dry before you use)
Saliva
Apply the mold release to your ball of clay before pushing it into the mold. Or apply it on the mold using with a brush. If your clay still distorts when you pull it free of the mold , you can also try chilling the clay and mold for a few minutes before you separate them, this will make the clay firmer and help avoid distortion.
After you bake the finished piece, you can paint your piece with acrylic paints, spray paint or using with "Rub-n-Buffs" to give your pieces more effect. You may also seal you finished piece with a clay glaze to make shine effect.
