There are several good ways to get creative with your kids after seeing Bee Movie

Did your kids have a fabulous time watching the show? Are they buzzing around your house pretending to be Barry B. Benson or his best friend Adam? You probably want to keep the momentum going because watching them is so darn cute. Here is a quick list of little projects and activities that can help you and your kids bond, making the memories and the fun last long after the final credits.

A list of 10 at home Bee Movie extras

There are several simple Bee Movie online activities and at home craft ideas that you can do with your kids for little or no money, so check it out. There are free directions for making your own Barry B. Benson Action figure. Little plastic ones have already hit McDonalds in the form of Happy Meal extras, but they will certainly not give the kids half as much pleasure as making one themselves (and if you are a crafter, you may even have all the supplies you need at home). Nor will they be as fun to play with several months after seeing the movie. This homemade pattern builds an 8 inch tall character that has bendable arms and legs, and antennae that can be positioned for important telephone communications between the flower patch and the hive. There are links to additional websites as well for online games, important educational info about Bees, printable materials, and beeswax candle making.

A finished Barry Bee

To make the Barry B. Benson doll you need to follow 8 simple steps:

1. Using several toothpicks, combine the styrofoam balls to make the bee's body shape. Note: the abdomen needs two balls sliced and combined. (Visit the website: Healthy-family.org to download the PDF file complete with images).

2. Using an infant sock, encase the balls and pull fabric tightly, securing the bottom with a twist tie. Note: position the twist tie to act as the stinger. Then cut ends.

3. Paint the entire body yellow with fabric paint (for best results) and a brush. Allow 2 hours to dry.

4. Use 4 pipe cleaners intertwined to create the legs and feet. (It should resemble a horse-shoe shape). Then attach it to the body with a fifth pipe cleaner. Be sure to wind the cleaner around tightly and secure it to each leg by twisting.

5. Attach modeling clay to the bottom of the feet. Buy the sculptors variety for best results. There is no need to bake the clay. It will dry like rubber.

6. Create arms by twisting two pipe cleaners as shown above. Continue twisting until the strands are completely wound to the ends.

7. Cut the arms to an appropriate length.

8. Finally, glue on the eyes, paint the face with a marker, poke the hair in his head with left-over pipe cleaners then trim, and fix the antennae by poking into the head. Glue on two pom poms and affix the wings. Now Barry is complete!

A little less crafty, but still a whole lot of fun!

A bit pricier than a home crafted doll, this Barry doll makes buzzing sounds.
