Honey Bees Why They Are Important To Our Survival

Ranked #1,559 in Pets & Animals, #41,204 overall

Being more aware of the role of bees in ecology and how they affect human existence is vital

I'm making this page about Bee Keeping because I don't think we, as ' joe public' realise just how in danger honey bees are!!!!!. Survival has never been so threatened!!.

There are just seven species of honey bee out of 20,000 known species. Bees are 'farmed' for four main reasons, to provide honey, to provide Royal Jelly, to provide beeswax and very important, to pollinate fruit crops. The demise of bees has a dramatic effect on the viability as fruit farming as an industry and the supply of food generally. The western or European Honey bee has the latin name Apis Melifera. The honey bee is a social insect that lives in a swarm. Honey bees survive the Winter months in colonies which is why bee keepers build bee-hives to help them survive and then in Summer make honey. The only fertile bee is the Queen bee and it is around her that the whole centers its attention.

Sometimes Bees are misunderstood

european-honey-beeThe majority of people are frightened of bees, how misguided can they be?, the bees aim in life is to pollinate, gather nectar, and make honey to survive and expand their colony. The last thing it wants to do is get involved with humans.

Bee Keeping

bee-keeperThis is me tending to my bees in Shropshire England. At the moment I only have a couple of hives. I am building more including a hive called a Top Bar Hive. There are several designs of bee-hive developed from the original style called a Skep. Eight bee hive designs are commonly used, including designs called the Langstroth, National, WBC, and Warre hive designs. Between 40 and 80,000 bees live in a healthy colony.

Our mission is to bring awareness to bees and their plight, to preserve our precious food supply through repopulating the struggling honeybee and to empower others to do the same, while promoting natural and sustainable beekeeping through education, research and the development of a Honeybee Sanctuary to save the Honeybees and ensure they have a better, sustainable future, by treating Honeybees with respect for their own needs first, by protecting them and caring for them in order to make them strong enough to evolve with modern civilisation.

This is so interesting. I've just spent a while researching wasp and bee stings treatment so it's interesting to hear about this other side of their existence.

I've definitely thought about beekeeping, though it would probably be on the level of a hobby rather than a career for me. Every time I hear farmers complaining about bees dying off, I'm typically like, "Dude, you use dangerous pesticides that KILL INSECTS on your crops and now you're complaining about losing bees."
