Begin A Family Tree And Make It Grow

I have been interested in genealogy for many years now and I must say I have never been so happy with a hobby. So far it appears that I have a very nice normal heritage with very deep family roots in and around the state of Missouri.

My American family history starts like a lot of other people, in the New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania regions. My mothers family took off for Iowa just after the recession scare of the mid 1800's. They stopped along the way to live for a few years in Illinois where my great great grandfather joined the Union Army.

When he was mustered out in March of 1864 he married his childhood sweetheart and moved to Story, Co Iowa to be near his brother. His brother then moved to Greene Co.,MO to become a very prominent physician and surgeon while also owning a hotel and livery stable.

A few years after, my gggrandfather then moved from Iowa to Christian Co., MO and bought eighty acres of land to farm and raise a family.

This is only a portion of the research I have accomplished using the techniques used at BeginFamilyTree.com. I just wish I would have had this information years ago.

Inspiration To Begin A Family Tree

I began my family tree research about a year after my son was born and two years after my grandfather died. These were my two inspirations for my beginning. I highly admired and idolized my grandfather so much so that I wanted to be just like him. He had a very strong spirit and you could see in his eyes that he had lived a full busy life.

My grandfather was someone that everyone looked up to. He was a quiet man who loved his wife and his family. Funny I say "quiet man", he always reminded me of John Wayne for his presence and a little bit of Bob Hope for his humor. "The Quiet Man" was a great movie starring John Wayne and Maureen O'hara for all who did not know what I was talking about.

When my son was born I worried if I could ever be as a good a dad as my grandfather was to his children. I wanted to make sure I raised him right in a manner that would make my grandfather proud. I realized that my son would never know his grandfather which Is why I started my journey to the past.
