Finding the Best Beginner Rc Planes can be a daunting task, especially if you are just getting started in the world of rc planes. There are so many different kinds to choose from how do you know which one is the best for you?
Maiden flight. Kinda jittery but no biggie. Alot different than the 2 channel aa planes.

Flying around the Super Cub out in the wash behind my house. I just barely got the plane so I'm still a novice flier. The plane is completley stock. I had one small crash, otherwise it was a good day for flying.

WebsterPhreaky: thank you for giving your honest opinion. You are correct that this lens has become too commercial. You are also correct about some of the planes. There are some planes that would be great for a beginner, but where left out for a specific reason. They had to be built first. All the planes on this lens come pre-assembled. As I stated earlier in another comment this lens will be going through a major overhaul ad I hope to have it done within the next few weeks. I have just been too busy lately and unfortunately people like you looking for information on what sort of planes would be good for beginners have not received all the information they should have. aande: Thank you for your comments about the Super Cub. It is a great plane. Posted August 26, 2008 |
I think this whole article is more of a COMMERCIAL for these stores and the planes they want to sell, than an honest recommendation of what a beginner should by. The whole piece smells of paid endorsements. Too many of these planes are known garbage and other planes know to be great begginer planes are omitted.
Readers, take these recommendations with a grain of salt.

The Super Cub is, in my opinion, one of the most stable, easy-to-fly, RTFs on the market. I fly it (almost daily now) in a small park near my house. I have flown it in winds over 10mph (a number of times) and it handles it with ease. I still consider myself a beginner, but I hope to move up in the RC world at some point. However, I LOVE this plane. I'm so glad I started with this one. I have a number of Super Cub videos on youtube as well. Type in mreae in the search and you'll be able to see my Super Cub videos. SelfishGene- thanks for your comment. I personally have not flown the phantom and assumed that wiuth its smaller engine it would fly slower. I also appreciate your feedback about not being able to reuse the electronics. Yes that is a big downside. There are other planes on this lens I am not too happy with at the moment either and hopefully soon will be making some major changes to this lens. It needs it. The easy star is a great plane and I hope I can add it in with my updates. I have seen it out of stop for a while now, and only on one other site but they were asking way too much for it. Again thank you for your feedback and keep coming back to check for updates. Posted July 15, 2008 |
I am very surprised to see the Firebird Phantom mentioned as the best beginner plane. It is too fast for a beginner. We had one and regret not looking around before we bought it. It is prone to "boom" breaks close to the V-tail and this cannot be repaired. Also the Phantom electronics cannot be reused - so when the boom breaks you cannot reuse anything. Look for the EasyStar. Much slower and easier to fly and has reusable electronics.
