It also belongs in the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. Civilization made Beijing one of the most modern city of China as well as its economic dynamo where its streets are filled with tall buildings and commercial hot spots which travelers would surely enjoy.

People and Population

The municipality of Beijing houses a population exceeding 22 million. There are also a large number of migrant workers who live in Beijing without official residential permit that add to the huge bulk of its population. Most of its residents belong to the Han Chinese majority while other minor ethnic groups include the Manchu, Hui, and the Mongol.

History

Being one of the four ancient cities in China, it is also the most preserved, and famous city in China. It marks 3,000 years of history and best known to be the cradle of Humanity. 700,00 years ago, Peking Man lived in the Zhoukoudian area of Beijing. The city was also formerly known as Jin City in the Western Zhou Dynasty. Almost 34 emperors have sited and ruled Beijing and the city remained an important role in the north of China.

Location and transportation

Beijing is located in the Northern tip of the North China Plain which opens to the south and the east of the city. The city is also shielded with vast mountains that make the scene of Beijing more beautiful. The urban area of the city is situated in the south-central part of the municipality. The city is also known as the transportation hub of China. Many road and express ways, a major airport, and well laid out routes where buses and taxi cabs are easy to find.

Weather / Climate

The city belongs to a monsoon influenced humid continental climate. It is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally cold and dry winters. Government also push efforts to clean up the air of the city because of smog and factory smoke. However, occasional dust storms from erosion of deserts in the north China seasonally occur.
