The advantages of Owning a Home Based Business

I've heard it said that MLM businesses are only good for those people who like to sell, are self starters, motivated to succeed, etc, ad nauseum. Well I don't believe it. I believe that anyone can succeed in the MLM industry. The MLM business model is really that flexible.

One home based business I own cost me nothing to start and I spend less than $100 per month in advertising. I actually do nothing in that business but deposit the checks every month. Of course I am also my own best customer, buying products from my own business.

A home based business, such as MLM or referral marketing, can be started extremely inexpensively. Most store front businesses will cost you from $50,000 and up just to get started. Then you have to cope with employee turnover; high overhead; theft; insurance. A home based business can actually be started for under a $100 and you don't need any employees.

No matter what type of business you start there will be ongoing expenses. With a home based business they will be minor in comparision to a store front type of business. A computer, internet connection, and telephone, all expenses that I was already used to paying for, are my primary expenses.

The main reason that I like home based businesses, obviously, is so that I can work at home. Working in your pajamas is an option but I seldom do. My wife and I like to get out and have breakfast at a restaurant so I'm already dressed before I start work.

Another good reason is that I never have to handle products. All of the companies that I work with will drop-ship the products directly to my customers. Some of my income streams are from businesses where the products are online services. These don't have to be shipped at all. That comes in really handy when I want to take some time off and travel.

And how do I attract customers? With an MLM business you would expect me to harass my friends and family, ambush people at the mall, go door to door attempting to sponsor people? I do none of these. The people I want are just as easy to find using advertising. Also, that way all my friends are still my friends and my family doesn't cringe when I come around.

Another thing I like about home based businesses is the flexible hours. I work when I want to which is seldom before 10am. When I take my wife to the movies it's usually on a Wednesday about 11am. The theater is almost empty. It's great! I can always work for a few hours when I get back.

When you start a home based business many of the things you are paying for now become legitimate tax deductions. Be sure and talk to a tax advisor about this; that's what I do.

If you use your computer and internet connection for your home based business, you can write off at least a portion of these expenses. Your long distance and cell phone service, your initial investment or start up costs, a portion of your rent or mortgage, all become tax deductions.

If you don't currently own a home based business, start one now. You will be amazed at the money you can make with a little consistent effort on your part.

In 1989 my sister called to warn me that my father wanted to talk to me. She wouldn't say what he wanted to talk about, just that I should listen.
