My Son Benjamin

This is just a lens about my little boy. Just some of the things I really like about him, and being his mom. I, of course, think he's the greatest kid ever.

He was born on Christmas Day in 2003. Yes, I said Christmas Day. I went into labor at 4:30 a.m. My husband didn't want to get up and take me to the hospital, but I told him there wasn't anything he could do about it, his son wanted to be born. Off to the hospital we went. Fifteen hours and an Emergency C-Section later, we had this very tiny little boy. He only weighed 5 lbs. 12 ozs. He was 19 1/2 inches long. We named him Benjamin Franklin O'Leary.

Why such an elaborate name? My husband has an amazing respect for the original Benjamin Franklin, and he thought Benjamin Franklin Pierce (Hawkeye) on MASH was a pretty cool dude as well. We also wanted a name that it would be hard for other kids to make fun of. Yes, we put a pretty big name on him, but that only means he'll probably do great things.

Top Things I Like

This is going to be a list of the greatest things, in my opinion, about my son.
  1. He's cute.
  2. He has above average intelligence.
  3. He says the funniest things.
  4. He makes up his own songs.
  5. He looks just like his daddy.

An example of his imagination.

We were eating spaghetti and meatballs for supper one night. My husband and I were talking to each other, not really paying much attention to him. The conversation between us stopped for a second, and I noticed something Ben was doing. He had a meatball on his fork, and he was pretending to be seeing things from the meatball's perspective. I heard him say, "No, No!, don't eat me, don't eat me." The next thing I know, the meatball is in his mouth and he's screaming. Couldn't help but laugh at him. Apparently, my husband heard it too, but for reasons of his own, he didn't make a big deal out of it.

Funny Things My Son Has Said

No, no, don't eat me. Another one smirnak (music) Daddy? Cookie too? Dis? Daddy found a drain monster. It's not behind the printer! Nobody smells it! You have to sit down or you'll go on the floor. There's a stab in my foot! The snow ate the sidewalk.

Perhaps only in our household, but my boy has been a lot more loving than his 2 elder sisters were, perhaps because he has 2 elder sisters, dunno, but he has done 'boy' things which his sisters would never have shown him. They each have their own characters, individual, unique and lovely (to us) Our eldest turns 13 this year and we can't wait for the 'teen' movement to come to town (lol)
My only point would be to enjoy each and every day with them because boy do they grow up fast
