Berries; A Power House of Nutrition

Festive, sweet, juicy, hmmm... can you taste it?

Berries engage all of our senses. They appeal to us visually first from their bright, colorful appearance, making us salivate before even reaching our taste buds. Then it's ((**POW*)) as we taste the sweet sun in our mouth.

Berries are full of nature's disease-figthing nutrients and anti-oxidants and a wonderful treat anyday, anytime.

Friend me: MySpace , FaceBook.

Quick Facts

Berries contain phytochemicals and flavonoids (antioxidants) that may help prevent some diseases.
Cranberries and blueberries help prevent bladder infections.
Blueberries and raspberries contain lutein, which is good for vision.
Eating a diet rich in berries may help prevent certain cancers.

Alkalinity vs Acidic

Fruits vary in alkalinity and acidity, and are classified as alkaline, slightly acidic, and neutral depending on the minerals they contain.

Even the most acidic fruits are not as acidic as nuts, grains, or seeds (saying nothing of meat).

I love berries, and I have had the pleasure of growing my own patch of strawberries and several vigorous blackberry vines (too vigorous, actually) -- this lens brought back many sweet and berry-licious memories. I also will use this as a reference when I refer folks (which I do fairly often) to the benefits of berries for certain ailments. Thanks so much -- I'm favoriting this, and giving it five stars.

Berries Come In Many Colors & Flavors

What's your taste?

Some like them all, some wouldn't touch one with a ten foot poll. What's your preference? Are you an all berries are great or are you divided? Or again, do you have strong feelings for one or the other?
Tell us which ones and why.

Hmmm, I'll have some of this!

businessblossom says:

I love strawberries most of all, though not even the best organic ones have ever met those I grew myself for two years. Blackberries and blueberries are close behind in my book.

Sunfish says:

I love raspberries in particular, maybe because we had bushes of them in the back of the yard as a kid and could go pick and eat them anytime we wanted.

Ugh, none of that one for me!
