- It is a high intensity workout which burns a lot of calories in a short time
- It works the entire body and so tones your entire muscles
- Can be done outdoors without any serious equipment

- Wear running shoes and get new ones at least once a year
- Try to run on soft surfaces such as grass and packed earth instead of one asphalt to reduce the risk of knee injury
- Try to avoid running down hill as this puts pressure on your knees. It is also easier to fall down
- If you're running on a treadmill, concentrate on your steps to avoid tripping
- To maximize your weight loss, mix medium pace jogging with sprinting and rapid pace running. Springting also works your abs in a massive fashion
Running outdoors is a better cardio workout than running on a treadmill, but both are excellent workouts and well worthy of your time. I wouldn't go over doing 20 miles each week to avoid overstraining your tendons and joints.

The wrong way is to do long duration steady pack cardio workouts like we've been taught to do in the past 25 years. This is due to the belief that we need to get into some sort of Fat Burning Zone. Let me put this to rest: there is no need to waste your time doing medium intensity, steady paced cardio. If you do, you're burning less fat than you should be.
The way to make the most of your cardiovascular exercises is to do High Intensity interval cardio. This means that you constantly change the pace and strain of your workout. For instance, if you run: you need to sprint for a minute or two, go down to a slower pace for a few minutes and then sprint again. If you this a few times over, you'll be huffing and puffing in no time. You will also have burned much more calories and fat.
In fact, you will continue to burn calories for hours after you've finished working out as your heart rate and bloodstream will continue to surge for a long time. And the best thing is that your workouts will be much shorter. You can virtually cut them down in half.
This is true regardless of the cardio exercises you choose to do.

Rowing can be done on a boat (if you have excess to one), or in a rowing machine at your home or the local gym.

The greatest thing about walking is that it can be done outdoors or on a treadmill and is perfect for people who wish to get into shape or for those who suffer from knee or Achiles Heel injuries which prohibit them from running.
Walking is also a social activity which can be done with a friend to pass the time.
However, walking usually isn't a fat burning aerobic exercise like more strenuous activities, and so it is best to do with with a diet of some kind.
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and walk at a rapid pace.
