Whenever I can get fresh green beans, it's a challenge to get them from basket to table without everyone (including me) eating them whole and raw, but my mouth is watering at your recipes, the two salads especially. Summer is just around the corner, and soon we'll get to eat fresh green beans again. Yum!

Yum. You can't go wrong with beans.

Well, unless you decide to grow them in your back garden, and they grow so well you can't pick them fast enough and they take over. Not that this has happened to me or anything.

  • KathyT Jan 7, 2012 @ 5:44 pm | delete
Thanks for these good ideas! Green beans are wonderful! ESPECIALLY out of the garden. We've been sauteeing them thusly: A tablespoon or so of PURE (Nutiva is my brand) coconut oil... Sizzle some minced garlic and ginger and a touch of crushed hot pepper in the oil. Then, add the green beans - toss and sautee for a while. At the end, season with some tamari (or soy sauce if you don't have tamari) and then add JUST A TOUCH of arrowroot (for thickening). Delicious! Kath

I love sauteed green beans. In fact, I would make a version for Thanksgiving with bacon topped with the french fried onions. It wasn't anywhere close to The Green Bean Casserole, but I'm positive there is a law somewhere that any green bean dish served on that day must contain those onions. :)
  • cffutah Sep 24, 2011 @ 10:51 am | delete
I've asked my wife if we can have green beans today in one of our meals. If you also like browsing lens as much as I do, mine has a great educational topic with poll questions for my readers to enjoy.

I grew up with green beans cooked-to-death with a bit of bacon in with it. Still love it that way. Also like them in with my pot roast with pototoes, onions, and mushrooms. Mmm, all that lovely beef flavor on the green beans.

Congratulations on your Purple Star Robin and for bringing some great recipes to our attention. Green beans are in danger of becoming a "boring" vegetable, but not with these recipes. My fav is tossing green beans cooked "al dente" and tossing them in butter and garlic before serving.
  • WindyWinters Jun 5, 2010 @ 7:40 pm | delete
I love green beans, too. Congrats on your Purple Star. :)

Wonderful - I want to rush out and buy and cook some green beans right away! Love green beans in garlic sauce, and once the warmer weather comes I think those salads with green beans (with onions and with red potatoes) would be delicious.

Those receipes Looked really tasty. I love how you have the nutritional information on there. I never worry about stuff like that when I creat a receipe. and if you could see me youd agree that maybe I should.

Did you know that if you add sliced bacon into your potato/green beans recipe, you'll get a Salade Liegeoise; which is a traditional Belgian recipe?
As for me, I'm going to try the Campbell's recipe, looks and sounds yummy!

Just tried the Green Bean and Onion Salad Recipe. It was quick and simple and delicious. Made a few changes: cut the onions in arc shaped lengths, steamed instead of boiled the beans, and served the dish warm off right off the stove.
