Why is Dish Network the better deal for Satellite TV?

There are a number of reasons why Dish Network is the better deal for satellite TV than other cable and satellite TV providers. Dish Network Satellite TV provides its customers with extremely affordable rates. On top of that, you will also receive tons of free upgrades from Dish Network Satellite TV. About Dish Network

EchoStar Communications Corporation

Dish Network began operations in 1996 as a service of EchoStar. EchoStar was formed in 1980. In 1987, foreseeing changing technology in the satellite TV industry, EchoStar Communications Corporation filed for a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) license with the FCC. Since, EchoStar has launched 14 satellites, with the capacity to offer over 2,700 digital video, data and audio channels of programming including local networks and HDTV. After the separation of DISH Network and EchoStar, DISH Network retained six satellites - five owned and one leased.

Today, the company competes primarily with satellite rival DirecTV and with cable television providers.

The Comparison!

Dish Network vs Direct TV

There are some advantages to both satellite providers, Dish Network provides a free DVR upgrade upon sign up where you can record up to 100 hours of your favorite tv shows, movies, sports, etc. Another advantage with Dish Network is the price, Dish Network is the best deal for Satellite TV they have better deals then DirectTV. The advantage with DirecTV is they offer you certain sports packages that Dish Network can't offer you, mainly the top selling and very popular NFL Sunday Ticket.

You will need to pay a $50 activation fee with Dish Network, which will be counted as credit on your bill. There are no activation fees with DirecTV but with Dish Network it is practically the same thing you just get the $50 taken off your first bill. Dish Network does not require you to pay for any shipping fees when they send off the equipment you have ordered, where as DirecTV charges you shipping fees. Dish Network offers you up to 250 channels for your viewing pleasure, including a wide variety of international programming. DirecTV is a sports fans dream though, they offer you exclusive rights to all sorts of sports channels and packages, such as, as mentioned earlier, NFL Sunday Ticket, also NHL Center ICE, MLB Extra Innings and NBA League Pass.

Dish Network DVR is superior compared to the TIVO with DirecTV because Dish Network DVR offers you up to 100 hours, while Tivo with DirecTV you will just get up to 35 hours. The picture quality is a lot better too with Dish Network. If you like more channels, lot's of movies to choose from and great international programming with good prices then Dish Network is the best deal for satellite TV. Plus they have great customer service, I have had no problems having something resolved with them.

If you are a sports junkie and you can't get enough of the football, baseball and basketball. Then DirecTV is the way to go but remember you will be paying a higher price for these specialty channels and Dish Network has a lot of these sports for no extra cost

My winner in this head to head battle goes to Dish Network, good prices, free DVR upgrade, great customer service, and I can still watch a lot of the sports for a lesser price than DirecTV.

In DirecTV's World! DirecTV wants to offer you their "Best Offer Ever" - their Premium package Free for 5 months. But that's not the whole story.

In reality, there's nothing free in the offer. You have to sign up for the $300 NFL Sunday Ticket to get this deal. In other words, those free months of programming are actually costing you three hundred dollars. Don't believe us? See for yourself on DIRECTV's own website.

At DISH Network, they believe in telling the truth. They offer the best programming at the best price.

Introducing NFL RedZone:
Every Sunday afternoon during the football season, NFL RedZone will jump from game to game to bring you live action from around the league. NFL RedZone is broadcast in both HD and standard definition on DISH Network Ch. 155 as part of the Multi-Sport Package at $5.99/month.

Introducing NFL RedZone on Dish Network! Click here to learn more.

DISH Network has a huge selection of sports: from the local teams you love, to national football, baseball, hockey and basketball, as well as International soccer and cricket. What we don't carry is NFL Sunday Ticket with out-of-market football games. We don't and we won't. NFL Sunday Ticket costs DIRECTV® $700 million dollars a year. Maybe that's why the average DIRECTV package costs 13% more than the average DISH Network package.

NFL Sunday Ticket is great for those people who are willing to pay up to $300 extra to see every out-of-market game every week of the season. For everyone else, there's DISH Network.

ALL SPORTS!

By subscribing to Dish Network you get access to some of the best channels for sports coverage out there. Some of the channels that you receive by subscribing to Dish Network Satellite TV are NBA League Pass, NHL on Ice, standard local sports programming, and ESPN Game Day. These channels can provide your party with exclusive pregame, in-game, and post game coverage of the most important games each season. ESPN Game Day is perhaps the best channel for sports coverage that Dish Network Satellite TV has in its arsenal. ESPN Game Day provides you with exclusive coverage of hundreds of college basketball and football games during each NCAA season.

Along with this premium sports coverage is a free upgrade to high definition television from Dish Network. It's tons of fun to watch the game on a crystal clear definition at a party with the guys. If you wanted to purchase high definition television service from the cable company you would have to pay hundreds of extra dollars each year. The money you save with Dish Network Satellite TV can be used to purchase more party supplies and snacks for championship games at the end of each season! Having a subscription to Dish Network will give you the HDTV that you need to spice your party up!

Slingbox by Slingmedia

Watch live or recorded TV through the Internet on your computer or mobile phone

Slingbox lets you watch and control your TV through the Internet. Anything you can do with your remote control in your living room, you can do on your computer or mobile phone. Never miss a favorite show or live sporting event again!

DirecTV does not have this feature and to me this Slingbox is a BIG PLUS!

www.dishnetwork.com

Slingmedia is a company that provides technology to manage audio and video playback systems. It is the leading firm in this genre, with its primary product marketed as the Slingbox. The company itself is owned by Echostar Corporation, which purchased it in 2007 for $380 million US Dollars (USD).

The Slingbox was designed to meet the consumer need to access TV and media files from remote locations via an Internet connection. Blake and Jason Krikorian, who wanted to view the 2002 Major League Baseball season while traveling, are considered the original developers of this requirement. They created Slingmedia to address this need.

There has been widespread concern regarding the legal implications of Slingmedia products since they were first introduced. The technology effectively allows viewers to circumvent the location restrictions common to sporting and other events and view programming outside of the broadcasting area, with no time delay. To date, these concerns have not resulted in any legal action, and may have actually spread the product information into the popular media.

Slingmedia offers a range of products surrounding the single requirement but with additional features. The Slingbox has a fairly simple design. The unit is inserted into the standard audio video system. Audio and video signal inputs connect directly to the unit from the media source, such as the satellite receiver or cable box.

The TV or amplifier cables are connected to the Slingbox, so that the signal is effectively routed through the Slingbox. A wireless card built in to the unit allows it to stream the video and audio signal it is receiving to the Internet. Each Slingbox has a basic operating system and an Internet Protocol (IP) address. The user types in his IP address, user name and password from anywhere in the world with Internet access and views real time TV programs. The same access can also allow the user to view saved media files.

The functionality provided by Slingmedia products allows users the flexibility to watch their favorite TV shows or media from anywhere in the world, at their convenience. As Slingmedia becomes more familiar with its market, additional products and features are being developed. For example, the ability to access a central repository of media events at any time is a popular feature, which reduces the storage capacity requirements for the individual customer. The growth of Slingbox and related products has been fueled by the growing movement in media and entertainment away from the standard TV model to Internet driven, consumer controlled media. Although the Internet has proven very popular, many entertainment firms are struggling to find a way to make it profitable.
