From the lens Choosing The Best Gaming Mouse.

What do you think of gaming mice? Do you have a favourite manufacturer? Do you prefer high dpi or low dpi?

Some of the trust stuff is pretty good.

Its important to figure out what you are going to be doing with the mouse. A MMO heavy user would want a mouse that has at least 9 buttons most likely where as a FPS heavy player could make do with a standard 7 button or less mouse.

Roccat has good ergonical mice for people with large hands it´s quite customizeble. maybe they aren't so much resistent like razer. i already had one of this mice, which had a problem in usb cord, tut they trade it. the mice i have right now it's a roccat kone plus, and i'm quite happy with it.

I gave a try to RAT9 and I havent regret I bought it. It might look funny transformer crap but on hand it's just great and it's accuracy, handling and feel is absolutely great. Especially the lil red button has been very handy:)
  • Tom Owen Oct 21, 2011 @ 5:11 pm | delete

razer naga beats all of these mice to make just a few points, it has 14 extra buttons that are all easily used with practice (not including right, left click, and scroll wheel), it is amazingly ergonomic, it has dpi adjustable from 100-5600 including about every 50 dpi in between, and it has adjustable lighting. it may be around 80$ but it is worth every penny.

I still use my old red MX510. I like the smoothness of the 518 and I want to testrun a 500 and G9x but for now, the old tenner hasn't disappointed or failed me yet.

My favorite gaming mouse is the Logitech MX518. I've been using one for like... 6 years now. I like it because it's asymmetrical (fit for right hand), has no silly shiny LEDs like Razer products do, is accurate, has 2 extra thumb buttons, etc. Also the price is good (although it was more expensive back when I bought it).

Mouse Logitech MX518 is the best one. Find its flexibility, The older has more experience to adapt with users.
  • Steve Sep 22, 2010 @ 5:47 pm | delete
For any of you that are tired of the annoying buttons right where you like to rest your thumb, I highly recommend finding the Logitech MX 518.

I have tried G9, the older G500, and the Razor Imperator and Naga. They all have annoying and mostly useless buttons (most gamers still just use two buttons and the keyboard). The 518 is a classic design and the buttons are not annoying. The only thing close to it might be the DeathAdder, which I have not tried yet.

Trust in gamers. The extra buttons are nice but not a neccessity. Comfort IS a neccessity.

i think that soon, mice, especially for gaming purposes, will be outdated for the sake of touch-sensitive surfaces!

I use several different gaming mice from all manufacturers, but Razer has to be my favorite. This was a great article in the sense of mentioning the different companies, but the one thing this article lacked was how a gaming mouse is "held", which will definitely sway the buyer into which mouse to choose. The holding positions I am referring to are the Palm, Fingertip and Claw grippers. Depending on which type you are will definitely make a difference in choosing which mouse to purchase.

Does having such a big mouse really help?
These mice look comfortable, and are great to use from experience, however I find them horrendous for gaming due to their lack of up and go speed. I mostly play older style games like Q3 and UT99 where I found that standard office mice were far more desirable due to being easy to knock around when you need to increase your angle a bit to dodge that rocket.
Though I am new to gaming specific hardware, I can't see why all mice are designed to be comfortable like this, limiting the movement from twitch reflexes to increase aiming seems like a bit much...

G5 is the mouse durable mouse I have ever used. I had MSFT optical mice but would go through one in 2-3 months. I moved to a crosshair, broke in 1 month. Then I bought my first g5 in 2005. When the G9 came out it gave it a run, it broke at month 5... fell back to my G5, and I have used the same G5 until july 2008, when I spilled a coke all over my desk and didn't get to the mouse until my desktop and lappie were safe. it had drowned. Got a G5 version 2, and it's been just as good as my first g5. I'm a pro gamer and I'll stick with the G5 until it breaks and I can't get a replacement. (all mice i have used break at the 200,00 click mark... The g5 in click tests broke the machine testing it.

You forgot one more major factor in a gaming mouse, the IPS. That means Inches Per Second, and it is the number of times the mouse refreshes the inage it takes per second. How does this affect how good it is? Take any old bargain mouse and swipe it as fast across your mouse pad as you can, but keep an eye on that cursor. Does the cursor lock up? Then your mouse has low IPS. Many gaming mice do not have this problem. This level is ofted advertised as "Megapixels per second" or as with the Logitech MX518 on Newegg, "5.8 megapixel/second image processing, Up to 15 g of acceleration."

I never thought of a mouse specifically for gaming (would it make me a better PvPer in WoW? ;) but I like the logitech products I've used.
  • LoLface Jul 9, 2010 @ 9:17 am | delete
hey m8. gaming mouses are mostly for fps or quick movement games, where you have to have some good reflexes. a gaming mouse mostly have a driver, which gives you certain hotkeys, which makes you able to fx bind a macro in wow. most mouses also have a speed changer, that makes the mouse slower or faster. hope i ansered your question :)
