5 Best Humor Tips You Need To Know

1. Go Natural. The first tip is simple: stay true to yourself! If you're not, by nature, a
hilarious fellow, now isn't exactly the time to try to convince people otherwise. Instead of trying to tell people "jokes", you'd be better off sticking to real life humorous stories and excerpts and working overtime on your delivery. Don't use a monotone. Don't sound "fake" or "canned". Keep it natural, and let the humor roll off as a side effect. That's the way humor works the best.

2. Find What Works - Then Steal It. Learn from the voice of experience. Learn from the
pros. The internet is FULL of examples of great Best Man Speeches, in just about every
category you can imagine, including humorous. Some are written out, but for the best effect, to
REALLY capture the essence of how they play out, you'd be better off searching through video sites http://funtube.info for terms like "funny best man speeches" "best best man speech", "best man humor", etc. and see what pops up. Just remember that when you're browsing through things, that your speech's humor rating should NEVER exceed PG, as there are likely going to be little ears in the audience!
But the real trick here is to look what works. Look exactly how the guy sets up the laugh, and then use it for a template for your own humor. Many men often sound serious and make a clear, kind statement, and then add a punchline that adds ironic humor to it.

3. Go subtle. Remember that all humor isn't of the "bust your gut" variety. You can aim for
smiles (and even a few smirks). There are also puns, plays on words, irony, light sarcasm,
"innocent" innuendos (remember, keep it PG or completely over their heads) and other ways to tickle peoples' funny bones. But please, my friend, do your homework. Take a little time to research humor and remember that you don't have to aim for being a stand up comic. Watching House MD is a great way to learn some of these subtler forms of humor and their proper execution.

4. Practice, Kid. Practice, Practice, Practice! The most effective way to deliver a flawless Best Man toast is to have read it out loud (preferably on tape) so many times that it literally just flows off your tongue almost magically. The absolute worst thing that you can do is wait until the last minute and then stand up (probably after at least a few drinks, and champagne goes RIGHT to your head) and have total diarrhea of the mouth. A great test to see how well you've committed your toast to memory is to say it out loud, fast - without pauses, at break neck speed. If you can still remember the words without all of the additional "trappings" of speech, the chances are high you've "got it down".

5. You're Not Funny Until You Know They'll Laugh. Thats right. Ask others for their
opinion. While I'm not advocating finding everyone you know and making them give you an in depth critique, it's always a good idea to create a "panel" of sorts (with representatives from each decade (little kids, teens, young adults, 30's, 40's, 50's and so on...) and solicit their input and opinion. This is a great way to make sure that you haven't stepped on any toes or slipped in something that's likely to offend.
