My Pick Of The Best Super Bowl Commercials This Century

Each year, in late January or early February, every football fan in the US will find the time to watch the Super Bowl. It doesn't always matter if they have a favorite in the game or not. They watch it anyway. Though all sports championships are big deals, there is just something about the final game of the NFL season that draws people who don't even like football all that much normally. Though the main theme of the day is the game, there are many who put a lot of focus on the best Super Bowl commercials. This is because they have become almost as important as the game to both viewers and the media.

I chose this commercial because of it's uplifting message. You can vote for your favorite at the bottom of this lens.

What is most amazing about the Super Bowl commercials that you see each year is the amount of money that they command. Just thirty seconds of airtime during the Super Bowl can costs millions of dollars. That is just insane if you really think about it. The network airing the game can charge that much for ad space, however, because they know the time is worth a lot of money. There are millions of people tuning in to the game and they are going to see those commercials. The price is usually worth the exposure this game can bring.

Budweiser does not disappoint when it comes to creating the best Super Bowl commercials. Here is my pick for 2001.

Timing of Super Bowl commercials also has something to do with the price. Those that are placed in the first two quarters of the game can be more expressive. This is because if the game is a blow out, there are many that turn off their TV sets at halftime. The viewership drops. That means a company could have dropped huge bucks on a commercial that fewer are going to see. The first quarter is the best time to run these. Most will actually take a restroom break during the game rather than commercials just so that they can watch them.

Super Bowl Commercial 2002

The best Super Bowl commercial in 2002 also goes to Budweiser in my humble opinion. Feel free to share your vote below.

Companies put everything they have into their Super Bowl commercials. These are expected to be the funniest and most clever commercials that anyone comes up with at any time during the year. There is almost as much focus on these as there is for the game. People vote on favorites, writers do special stories on them, and people talk about them for weeks after the game. In a way, the Super Bowl commercials each year are talked about long after the final score has been forgotten. This is the one time of the year when most don't mind commercials, and actually look forward to seeing them.

Between $2.5 and $3 million dollars for a spot in the Super Bowl in my opinion is not a good bet. Your company is still not out of the fire. Poor Willie Nelson. He had the unfortunate luck to run into the tax man. At least Willie had a great sense of humor. I wonder if he has considered merchandising that Willie Nelson doll.

Wikipedia

Who am I and why am I so passionate about football and the Super Bowl? I am an NFL sports agent. Here is my background in Wikipedia.

Leigh William Steinberg (b. March 27, 1949 in Los Angeles, California) is a sports agent and well-known sports attorney. Clients include Myron Rolle, Matt Leinart, Ben Roethlisberger, Mark Brunell, Ricky Williams, Howie Long, Lennox Lewis, Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Bruce Smith, Eric Karros, Dusty Baker, Oscar de la Hoya, John Starks,Thurman Thomas, Kordell Stewart, and Warren Moon.

Steinberg was admitted to the California State Bar in 1974 after earning his J.D. from Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley's law school, in 1973. He earned a B.A. in Political Science also from UC Berkeley in 1970.

Steinberg is often credited as the real life inspiration of the sports agent from the film Jerry Maguire. He was also a consultant on other films such as For Love of the Game, Any Given Sunday as well as the TV series Arliss.

For many years Steinberg and Jeff Moorad had a sports agency partnership (Steinberg, Moorad & Dunn or "SMD"). They sold that firm in October 1999 to Assante Sports Management Group, a Canadian financial-management firm, for a reported $120 million. ESPN The Magazine: "Crash Landing" Assante acquired several other sports agencies. In February 2002, David L. Dunn left SMD to open Athletes First, taking about 50 N.F.L. players with him and opening offices about a mile from Steinberg's in Newport Beach, Calif. Extensive litigation ensued involving Dunn and Assante. Steinberg is the President of Leigh Steinberg Sports & Entertainment which operates its main office in Newport Beach, California.
