Rainbow Crafts
Use these rainbow related activities to remind your children that God always keeps His promises.

Mosaic Rainbows
Use small squares of paper the colors of the rainbow. Draw a small arch on each child's paper. This will give them a guideline for the bottom color on the rainbow and they can keep adding the colors on. Then have them glue on the squares, one color at a time.

Rainbow Sandwhich
Trim the crust from a slice of white bread. Spread with red jam. Top with another slice of trimmed bread. Spread with orange jam. Continue alternating bread and different colors of jam until you have as many layers as you desire. Slice into thin strips and serve lying flat so that the "rainbow" is visible.

Jello Rainbow
*One small box each of red, blue, and yellow gelatin dessert mix

*Three mixing bowls

*Measuring cup

*Water

*Three spoons

*Large, sealable, plastic bag

*Masking tape

Follow directions on the boxes to make the gelatin mixes in separate bowls to the point where the gelatin is ready to chill. While chilling the mixtures for 45-50 minutes, stir each a few times with a clean spoon. When the gelatin is partially set, spoon each color into the plastic bag to make three separate stripes, with yellow in the middle. Smooth all the air out of the bag, then seal it. Tape over the seal. Squish neighboring colors of gelatin together to make new colors.

Hold A Ten Plagues Simulation
Let your child "experience" the ten plagues with a different activity each day. This idea was originally posted on the Yahoo Lapbooking group by Missy in Indy. I have made several changes and additions.

1. Nile River Turns To Blood
Put red food coloring "blood" in the water glasses at
meals, in the bathroom sinks, in the dog's water bowl, and anywhere else you have water around your home.

2. Frogs
Make origami frogs. Place them all over the house. If you are brave enough, you could even coat them with homemade slime.

3. Lice
Use a hole punch to "dots" out of plain white paper. Scotch tape them all over your body and leave them on for a few hours. The appearance and irritation will make you think of itchy lice.

4. Flies
Use clear scotch tape to tape small "dots" of
black construction paper in different areas of the house, the windows, the bathroom mirrors, etc. (Or leave the door open while you are cooking dinner, LOL!)

5. Disease Afflicting Egyptian Livestock
Scatter "dead" stuffed animals around the house.

6. Boils
Use non toxic paint to make red spots all over your body. The appearance and irritation will make you think of boils.

7. Hailstorm
Put ice cubes around the outside of your house and on the outside window sills to represent the hail.

8. Locusts
Use brown construction paper to cut out oval shaped locusts and put them all over the house. Or, if you are brave enough you could use pretzels or some other cruncy snack so it feels and sounds like you are walking on bugs.

9. Darkness
Tape paper bags or cardboard over all the windows or draw all draperies to keep it dark in the daytime, or leave the lights off in the evening.

10. Death of Firstborn
Put red ribbon on the sides and top of door post of your house to avoid the death plague. Eat unleavened bread and think about all the people you know who are firstborn sons who might have been killed by this plague.

Unleavened Bread
2 cups flour
1 teaspooon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup oil
2 tablespoons honey

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix milk, oil, and honey. Combine dry ingredients and slowly stir them into the honey mixture. Mix well, knead slightly. Divide dough into 12 balls and pat each into a 5-inch circle. Prick with a fork and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes.

Parting of the Red Sea
Fill a shallow bowl with water and sprinkle pepper over the surface of the water. Place a little dish detergent on the tip of your finger and touch the surface of the water. Pretend you are watching the waters of the Red Sea part so that the Israelites can cross on dry land.

Make Gingerbread Tablets
Create "stone" tablets out of gingerbread dough to remind you of the tablets on which God carved the ten commandments. Try writing on them with your finger.

2/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp ground ginger
pinch salt
3/4 cup molasses
1 egg
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda

Cream together first 6 ingredients. Add egg, mix. Add molasses, mix again. Mix together flour, baking powder and baking soda in a separate bowl. Sift. Add to the creamed mixture and stir until well blended. Chill 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 F. Shape dough on a lightly floured board. (It should be 1/8 to 1/2 inch thick). Transfer to a cookie sheet. Place in oven for 8 - 10 minutes, or until done. Cool on a wire rack.

Joshua 2-6

March Around Jericho
Recreating a story through play acting is a great aid to memorization and one that most children enjoy. The story of Joshua and the fall of Jericho is an easy one to act out. My children spent an entire afternoon spying out the town, escaping over the wall, marching, shouting, and conquering the fallen city using the staircase as "the walls of Jericho." One of them pretended to be the preists carrying the ark (a notebook) and another was the priests blowing horns (their cupped hands). It cost nothing but a little time, and now they can all tell you the story in detail.

Don't be discouraged if you're children aren't immediately enthusiastic about acting out the story. Some children are naturally gifted at this type of imaginative activity, while others may need a little encouragement and a few suggestions. Although my children are used to me suggesting these kinds of activities, they rolled their eyes when I told them to get up and march around the livingroom. After a halfhearted reinactmet, they sat back down and I continued reading the lesson. But later in the day, when they were free to play, that seed that had been planted in their imaginations began to bloom and the real performance began!
