Reno, Find Biggest Little City Entertainment!

Ranked #20,166 in Travel & Places, #463,775 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, ASPCA

Reno is known as the Biggest Little City in the World. While it is no longer little, it packs in more things to do for its size than any city I know. From Casinos to outdoor activities, to art events, to a world class symphony that few know about, Reno can compete because of diversity of entertainment. Reno is also event driven, with Hot August Nights, Reno Air Races, Street Vibrations and the Rib Cookoff being just a few of the major events. Reno has headliners who either perform here or in nearby South Lake Tahoe. The most exciting additions are the massive sporting goods meccas, Cabelas near Boomtown and Scheels near the Sparks Marina.

Reno is a great place but I live close by so I'm biased!

KimGiancaterino says:

Been there many times, and it has really changed over the years!

bgamall says:

Well, I think Reno gets a bad rap. It is actually quite proper except for gambling. The community is made up of many transplanted Californians. It has a bad housing bubble.

Reno doesn't sell sex like Vegas. Both Reno and Vegas have laws forbidding prostitution and the legal brothels are all in the less populated counties of Nevada.

Security in the casinos require reasonable behavior, and do not allow crazy behavior. Also, Reno has, as I have tried to point out here, an amazing cultural foundation. Also, the neighborhoods away from the casinos are really nice.

And the two casinos I picked out to feature are really quite nice hotels. There is no cheaper vacation as far as hotel cost than Reno. It is much less expensive here than in Las Vegas.

No I would like to go

Evelyn_Saenz says:

Reno may be wild but I prefer more natural settings. I'd love to visit other parts of Nevada.

Frost is about to become Weston's one and only guest at the safe house, and the fledgling agent is determined to handle the situation like a true professional. But by selling U.S. secrets to countries like North Korea, Frost has made more than his fair share of enemies in high places, and shortly after he arrives at the safe house, all hell breaks loose. A small army of gunmen are determined to see Frost dead. Meanwhile, Weston will do everything in his power to protect Frost, regardless of his crimes. Now Weston's only hope for getting out of this alive is to find out who's gunning for them, and seek out someone he can trust before it's too late. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

5. Chronicle - $12.0M
A loner (Dane DeHaan) escapes his abusive home life and discovers a mysterious crater that gives him and two fellow high school students psychokinetic powers in this found-footage-style superhero film from director Josh Trank and screenwriter Max Landis. DeHaan plays Andrew, a angsty teen whose mother is dying and whose father takes out his violent frustrations out on the boy. As a result, Andrew starts filming everything around him, including the dreadful night that he, his cousin Matt (Alex Russell) and the soon-to-be senior class president, Steve (Michael B. Jordan), wake up with superpowers after exploring a condemned piece of land housing an unexplained power source. The three bond over their newfound abilities, with Andrew clearly leading the pack in terms of control and strength. Despite their noble intentions, a darker streak appears in one of them as the other two try to take control over a situation that soon spirals into homicidal madness -- all of which is captured on camera. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi

Reno Outdoor Sporting Capital

Reno is an outdoorsman's mecca. Besides nearby Lake Tahoe, there are numerous lakes and streams for fishing and other activities. Mt Rose ski resort is the closest ski resort to any American city, and the hotels in Reno offer shuttle service to the major ski areas which include Northstar at Tahoe, Squaw Valley, Heavenly Valley, Kirkwood and Alpine Meadows. There are many other ski resorts throughout the area.

Golf is growing and there are numerous courses, from easy to not so easy. Whitewater rafting is becoming a huge draw, as the Truckee River was reconfigured downtown to include some great rapids. Other more adventurous truckee river excursions are available. Always ask your hotel concierge to give you all the information you will need about Reno.

If you are short on gear, Cabelas near Boomtown and Scheels near the beautiful Sparks Marina are eyepopping sporting goods shopping unmatched anywhere.

Add to this outdoor recreation the indoor sport of bowling, with the famous National Bowling Center, and you have an amazing array of activities that a Reno vacation can bring.
