The New Bioness L300!
The NESS L300 system works by delivering electrical impulses to the Common Peroneal Nerve which controls the movement of the muscles that cause the foot to dorsiflex in the swing phase of gait and thereby prevent foot drop.
The NESS L300 utilizes state of the art wireless communication to seamlessly integrate its components. Patients wear a lower leg electronic orthosis housing an integrated stimulation unit and electrodes. Then Miniatrue Control Unit allows simple operation, displaying real time system status information. The Intelli-Sense Gait sensor, with wireless communication, detects "heel off" and "heel on" positions, and signals the stimualator to initiate or pause accordingly. Initial Setup is performed using the wireless, hand-held programmer. Its itnuitive interface enables simple configuration and online optimization of gait parameters.
Wireless technology makes the unit more acceptable for patients by eliminating cumbersome wires. The electronic orthosis has also been designed for repeatable electrode placement and a snug fit between the affected limb and the integrated electrodes. And, unlike traditional systems, the NESS L300 may eliminate rigid splints that previously resulted in awkward movements that may damage hip, back and knee joints.
A truly unique feature that makes the wireless NESS L300 preferable to other foot drop devices is the Intelli-Sense gait sensor featuring real-time adaptive gait recognition. Sophisticated software algorithms are utilized to automatically adjust to different surfaces, uneven ground and walking speeds. Patients seamlessly transition between terrains, thaks to real-time adaptation to variations in walking speed, rhythm and style. This feature enables the user to walk with greater confidence and ease, leading to increased mobility and independence.

Bioness L300 for foot drop, MS and stroke patients. More info at http://orthomedics.us
The Bioness L300 can benefit people with MS or other problems but must understand that this does not cure the underlying disease. It does however, provide an increased functional lifestyle by increasing ambulation limitations. I have seen first hand that the Ness L300 can provide an increase in functionality. Some insurance companies are now covering this item and either way, I feel that a years worth of walking is well worth the price. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact someone at orthomedics to see if they can help you with this, or any other prosthetic or orthotic needs.
