Black cats have long been associated with witches and are favorite icons used for Halloween costumes and decorations. This association dates back to the Middle Ages and may have been due to the fact that cats are nocturnal and therefore more active at night. They were believed to be supernatural servants of witches, or even witches themselves. Their stealthy movements and glowing eyes add to their sense of mystery.

- I love black cats! but I always kept my two girls locked up around Halloween time because people killed black cats around where I lived, even the pound wouldn't adopt out black cats in October.
