The types of feline urinary tract infections is quite different for younger cats. Here is the distribution for cats 4 years old and younger.
- 20% have bladder stones and the majority of cases are young female cats.
- 50% have a bladder or urinary tract infection for which the true cause is undetermined.
- 20% have a urethral blockage.
- 1-5% have a urinary tract infection.
- 1-5% have cancer in the urinary tract.
- 1-5% have damage to the urinary tract due to an accident or abuse.
- 1-5% have a combo of feline bladder infection and bladder stones in cats.
The Statistics for 10 Year Older Cats And Older Shows Quite A Different Pattern
The cause of the bladder infection in cats that are 10 or older has less mystery.
FUS in older cats is linked to true cause and there is little if any incidence of FUS with an undetermined cause.
- 50% of older cats have a urinary tract infection.
- 10% of cats have bladder stones.
- 17% have a combination of bladder stones and feline urinary tract infections.
- 7% have urethral blockage.
- 3% have urinary cancer.
- 4% have an undetermined cause of the cat bladder infection.
