Blessed Assurance - Lyrics, Sheet Music, and Great Performances

"Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!" This song proclaims that I know God is there, and I know he waits for me in Heaven. I see hints of it all around me, and I spend my life praising him, "Watching and waiting, looking above". I know what Heaven hold's is worth it. "This is my story, this is my song".

Blessed Assurance was written by Fanny Crosby, the most prolific song writer, and published in 1873. The music was composed by Phoebe P. Knapp. This traditional hymn is one that is loved by many.

Blessed Assurance

Words By: Fanny Crosby

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels, descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

About Fanny Crosby

Frances Jane Crosby (March 24, 1820 - February 12, 1915) usually known as Fanny Crosby, was an American lyricist best known for her Protestant Christian hymns. A lifelong Methodist, she was one of the most prolific hymnists in history, writing over 8,000 despite being blind from shortly after birth.[1] Also known for her preaching and speaking, during her lifetime Fanny Crosby was one of the best known women in the United States.

To this day, the vast majority of American hymnals contain her work. Some of her best known songs include "Blessed Assurance", "Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home", "Praise Him, Praise Him", and "To God be the Glory". Since some publishers were hesitant to have so many hymns by one person in their hymnals, Crosby used nearly 100 different pseudonyms during her career.

    Your lens titles are just drawing me back to the Methodist church I grew up in and the music still plays in my heart. The church was first located in the farmhouse that my Dad grew up in and we wore our coats in the winter all through the service because it was only heated on Sunday mornings. We sang Blessed Assurance to the tunes of an old missionary pump organ......returning to bless!

    I have loved the hymns of Fanny J. Crosby for many, many years, and this is one of my favorites. I never knew that Alan Jackson had sung it - I enjoyed his performance and that is my favorite rendition on this lens. My other two favorites are the Jazzy version and the Reggae version. Great job finding and featuring these!
