I recently reviewed and searched for writing tools to help me maintain two personal and a company blog. Below is the trail of the links I found.
Most tools cover the basics pretty well - allow you to post offline, edit your entries, format. Unusually, not all allow you to upload images.
Some of the newer and more popular tools are adding features like spell check and automatic ad insertion. Although I haven't added it to the list, I believe Flock will allow web-based posting and integration with sites like Flickr and Delicious.
