Play Blokus!

What is Blokus Trigon?

Well, to put it simply, Blokus Trigon has taken the ol' Blokus and added a super-challenging twist! The newest member of the Blokus family uses a hexagonal board, with pieces that are triangular rather than square. . .this variation brings an excitedly new experience to the game!

It's simple to understand, but the game's complexity is revealed shortly after everyone begins to play. It can be addictive, even for those not normally into abstract games.

Blokus Trigon encourages creative thinking and has received a Mensa award for promoting healthy brain activity.

Purpose of the Game

Why Play Blokus Trigon?

Purpose of the game:

All the Blokus games share the same basic principle. Each player places his/her pieces on the board in turn, with the purpose of placing a maximum number of pieces on the board. You must lay down a piece in your color, and just like the ol' Blokus, each new piece that is placed on the board must touch another piece of the same color, but it can touch only at the corners, never along the sides.

You better believe that you need to use strategy and anticipation to extend your own territory! And at the same time, you need to be thinking ahead about how you will be blocking your opponents. Each playing piece is a different shape, so each move can be decisive.

Blokus Trigon, like the ol' Blokus, is quick to learn, but challenging to master. With angles jutting in every direction, new strategies are always evolving. Be aware that at any moment you can block and be blocked.

Since Blokus Trigon is a little more complex than the ol' Blokus, it will be perfect for players who already know the ol' Blokus, and particularly adults. Bright colors and simple rules make it an ideal family game, for ages five and up, but older kids and adults can get into more strategic moves and block other players' pieces, plan their layout, etc.

Who Wins?

In the ol' Blokus, the player who gets rid of all of their tiles first is the winner. In Blokus Trigon, the person who has the most points wins! The score is calculated by each person counting the number of triangles that he/she was unable to place on the board. Any triangle which is not placed on the board counts as a negative point. A bonus of 15 points is awarded if all 22 pieces have been placed on the board.

This bonus is increased to 20 points if the 22 pieces were placed on the board with the single triangle being placed last.

Blokus encourages creative thinking and has received a Mensa award for promoting healthy brain activity.

If you're looking for a high-quality family game that encourages healthy thinking and develops spacial perception, while having immense fun, I recommend that you put Blokus Trigon on your shopping list. I believe it's absolutely one of the best Christmas gifts you can purchase.

Why Blokus Trigon Is Constantly Receiving 5 Stars

5.0 out of 5 stars We love it!

I purchased this game for one of my grandchildren for Christmas last year after reading the good reviews about it. She brought it up to our cabin on our vacation this summer and I also got a chance to play it. It was really fun! Since then I purchased one for my husband and I to have here, and I also got one for two more grandchildren. It is really fun for adults, but children have fun with it too. I would say kids under 8 need a little help to find where to put the pieces sometimes, but it is a great learning toy for them. It teaches some good thinking skills, and they can play it with their "own rules" with each other and have lots of fun too! I would definitely recommend this game to anyone!

I got this game to play with my kids. I'm always looking for games that can be fun, and challenging for kids and adults. This one is pretty fast, and can be played by younger kids too. My youngest is 7, and he also enjoys it. My kids like it and I LOVE it. I am always looking for someone to play the game with. This is much better than typical board games for kids.

Blokus is a very fun strategy game. My husband and I as well as our 15 yr old and 6 yr old all enjoy this game. It is easy enough to play for all, but is very challenging at the same time. This is a great pick for family game night and I think it makes a perfect holiday gift for those hard to buy for friends and family members.

Overall Surprisingly Fun!
January 11, 2007 By Homeschool Mom

I purchased this game as a Christmas gift for friends of ours, who are avid game players. The game was very well received, and I've been told over and over how they "love" this game and want to play it all the time! Their college-age son at first joked how it's "like scrabble without letters", but ended up wanting to play again and again. It's surprisingly easy to learn, yet there's strategy involved as well. My 16 yr. old son, who thought the game looked "boring" on the box, got to play and is now hooked, since he enjoys the strategy of blocking other players from winning. A very satisfying game to play, and visually appealing as well when all those colors get on the board. Another benefit is that it can be completed in about 30 min. (depending on how obsessive each player is)

Overall Great Game!

Blokus - A Great Game For The Whole Family

Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

This is a great game for kids to hone their spacial relationship understanding and reasoning skills, and equally as fun for adults to strategize moves against their oponents in hopes of blocking as many pieces as possible from being laid down on the board. Game is missing a warning sticker...Caution: Blokus Is Addictive.

Lot's of fun. Quick 20-30 minute games. Definitely recommend.

More About Blokus Trigon

Blokus Trigon
24/07/2007 Paris, 1st February 2006

From square to triangle - the game gets tougher!

After the worldwide success of the Blokus Classic game, for two to four players, and of its variation, Blokus Duo, for two players, Sekkoïa is pleased to announce the publication of a brand new creation by Bernard Tavitian, which can be played by two, three or four players : Blokus Trigon.

A new format
Whereas Blokus Classic and Blokus Duo have a square board and square-shaped pieces, Blokus Trigon offers a radically new format : its board is hexagonal, and its pieces are composed of triangles. This variation provides a completely different game experience ! The Blokus rules remain the same (the pieces must only touch each other on the corners), but the triangular shape of the pieces gives rise to configurations and strategies that are totally new...

A pleasure for the brain cells. . . and for the eyes!
To become a Blokus Trigon champion, you need to be extra vigilant! An intersection point can now be used as a passage for two colours, rather than only for one as before. Moreover, the pieces can be composed of up to six triangles : the players must therefore place 22 pieces on the board, instead of 21. And these triangular pieces demand a spatial vision which is a little more precise than in the case of the square-shaped pieces, as well as a greater capacity for anticipation.

But what a pleasure it is to place them on the board and to see a magnificent stained glass window gradually take shape before your eyes!

Blokus Trigon will satisfy all the players who are already familiar with Blokus, particularly adults. It is an ideal game for three players.

Review:
In this game of territorial acquisition, the winner is the one whose playing pieces cover the largest area of the board at the end of the game. Each player starts with 22 pieces of a single color. Each piece has a different shape, formed by every possible configuration of from one to six triangles. The board is a hexagon subdivided into triangles, and the first piece each person plays must cover one of the designated starting areas.

On subsequent turns each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the points; there must be no contact along the sides. When no more pieces can be placed, each player totals the number of triangles on his un-played pieces, and the one with the fewest triangles left is the winner. The well-illustrated rules include helpful strategy tips. Although the game is designed for two to four players, our testers found it best with four.
