This is why you NEED to have your swimming pool filters cleaned at least every 3 months, especially if you have a cartridge pool filter. As you can see from this picture, the four cartridge filters on the left as dirty. The four on the right have already been cleaned by us.
Unlike sand filters and DE filters, a cartridge pool filter is never backwashed, and therefore all the dirt and grime that the pool filter picks up just sits in the filter. Then your clean swimming pool water is RUNNING through this and returning to your pool! A dirty pool filter also causes your pool pump motor to have to work harder to push the water through this clogged up filter, causing your motor to wear out faster. A dirty pool filter also will raise your electric bill because the pump has to work longer and harder to try to do its job.

Great suction. Does a great job of picking up debris on the bottom of the pool. I see very minimal repairs for this model. Highly recommended. -

Bigger, Better Model of The Pool Cleaner. This one has 4 wheels and more suction power. Suited for larger pools. Highly Recommended. -

Pool Cleaners I DON'T Recommend
Note: I do the MOST REPAIRS on the Hayward Navigators....I would NOT recommend buying them. Although they do an OK job on cleaning, they have a lot of repairs. My customers who own these, almost every summer, something will need to be fixed or pads will need to be replaced, or something. They are my biggest number of pool cleaner REPAIRS.

I have many customers who call me needing help with a green pool or other pool problem, AFTER they've already dumped hundreds of dollars on chemicals that their local pool supply store told them would clear up the problem.
I want you to know that your local pool supply store can ONLY analyze your chemical balance in your water and tell you to treat your pool based on your water chemical levels. So you may go home and treat it with the proper chemicals, BUT many times the problem isn't just your water chemicals. You may be getting a green pool because one component of your pool equipment is not working properly, which the local pool supply store CAN'T tell you by looking at your water sample!
Many times, algae is growing (or you have some other problem) because your pool pump isn't working properly, or your pool filter needs to be cleaned, or something else is wrong. Just treating your water with more chemicals won't help you in this situation. So you'll end up calling a pool repair guy (ME) to come over and diagnose the actual problem and treat your pool.
Many times, if the customer would have just called me the first time, they could have had their pool problem fixed (pool filter cleaned, pump problem fixed, etc) and gotten all the pool chemicals needed (at wholesale), plus my labor, for the same price that you will pay for buying pool chemicals at retail price and not even getting your pool problem fixed.
Moral of the story: Call a pool professional FIRST, so you can properly diagnose the problem and get your pool cleaning for the lowest cost to you!
