Blue Emu
The term "blue emu" generally refers to emu oil products that are made from processed emu oil into oil, gel, salve, or cream to be used for pain relief. In fact, emus are brown with a bluish neck, but in most cases the bird itself is not generally what is not generally what is referred to when using the term "blue emu".
The therapeutic products made from emu oil are used to ease the pain from aching muscles and stiff joints in the neck, back, joints, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, shoulders, arms, legs and feet.
There is some evidence that emu oil has anti-inflammatory properties, however the FDA regards pure emu oil as an unapproved drug.
Many different manufacturers make "blue emu" and it can be confusing when looking for a product of this nature to figure out which one to purchase. In fact, some of the blue emu products being sold on the market today is not of animal origin!
Generally blue emu products have at least 5 percent emu oil in them, not enough to produce an anti-inflammatory effect. The better the product the higher the percentage of emu oil. Some products have 7 percent or more emu oil in them, and these are the better products because the oil is able to penetrate into the skin at higher levels.
Why Is Blue Emu Blue?
Why is "blue emu" blue? You guessed it! Food coloring. Pretty easy to answer that question if you put your thinking cap on, eh? In other words, the product that you buy to ease your pain does not have to be blue to work. Coloring the therapeutic product blue is a marketing ploy that the manufacturer's use to brand the product. If you find a therapeutic product that is not blue, it should work as you expect if the percentage of emu oil is high enough in the product. Make sure when you make your final purchase you check the ingredients, and know what the percentage of emu oil is in the product.
Quite often other ingredients are added to the blue emu. The most common added ingredients are menthol, glucosamine, MSM (methyl sulfomyl methane), and aloe vera. These other ingredients work with the emu oil to quickly relieve your pain and soothe your skin in therapeutic emu oil products.
Blue Emu Benefits - Part 1
Emu Oil Benefits - Part 1
When discussing Blue Emu we must discuss Emu Oil since it is the primary active ingredient in Emu Blue, or therapeutic preparations made out of Emu Oil.The benefits of Emu Oil are many, while there are virtually no side effects. Tests have been conducted that show that Emu Oil generates irritation levels comparable to that of water.
Below are listed the many benefits of Emu Oil:
- Emu Oil is a natural anti-inflammatory. Clinical experience with Emu Oil has shown that it's two primary actions were those of an anti-inflammatory and it's ability to reduce inflammation in the joints. Many lotions moisturize the skin, but Emu Oil is unique in it's anti-inflammatory capabilities.
- Emu Oil is a natural anti-bacterial agent. Emu Oil does not promote the growth of bacteria (it is bacteriostatic) and it is hypoallergenic (low irritation potential) and non-comedonogenic (non-pore clogging).
- Emu Oil is a natural anti-fungal. Emu Oil has been tested clinically and has been found that in it's pure state it grows no organisms.
- Emu Oil relieves the pain of arthritis and muscle/joint injury. Professionals who work with arthritis patients who use Emu Oil are excited by the dramatic results they have observed. Emu Oil is being used for many therapeutic uses, including Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, joint and muscle aches, sporting strains, skin care for dry irritated skin, sunburn, windburn, and to reduce swelling and stiffness.
- Emu Oil offers unsurpassed penetration. Anyone who has used Emu Oil will tell you that it goes on how well it goes on and that it does not feel greasy at all. The reason the Emu Oil penetrates so well is that there is no phosphorus in our skin. If you put anything on your skin that has phosphorus in it, our skin is "programmed" to keep it from penetrating. Any time you put anything on your skin that is phospho-lipid deficient, or has no phosphorus, it penetrates right through.
Blue Emu Benefits - Part 2
Emu Oil Benefits - Part 2
- Emu Oil is hypo-allergenic. Emu Oil has been used for years now. Reports of Emu Oil irritating someones skin are virtually non-existent.- Emu Oil has no known side effects. It has been proved and documented that the claims about the oil penetrating, emulsifying, non-comedogenic, non-irrigating, and highly moisturizing are true. The oil has no known side effects.
- Emu Oil has no odor and will not stain clothing. Emu Oil is not objectionable because of any offensive odors, and it will not stain your clothing. It must be noted that this is the pure oil, the oil must not be contaminated with anything objectionable, or it will in fact pick up the odor of the added ingredient(s).
- Emu Oil is non-comedogenic. Non-comedogenic and an anti-irritant, Emu Oil is advertised as a powerful moisturizer that penetrates deep into the skin. It is believed that Emu Oil's fatty acids actually mirror what's found in the skin's top layer, so it readily accepts the oil.
- Emu Oil speeds healing in burn wounds and scarring. Experiments have been conducted comparing Emu Oil with traditional burn and wound treatments and wounds treated with Emu Oil have been found to heal significantly better when treated with Emu Oil.
In conclusion, this oil has so many benefits it is hard to see why anyone would not want to use it. Vegetarians would not want to use Blue Emu, or Emu Oil as it is derived from animals. Anyone who isn't a vegetarian, should give this oil and it's many products a close look.
