Welcome to Bluewren's Treasures Photography and Digital Designs Lens

Bluewren's Treasures Photography and Digital Design Lens is all about my love of creating visually appealing and inspirational photographic and digital fractal designs. The world becomes a truly different place when viewed through a camera, capturing moments in time, creating memories and resulting in beautiful artwork. In a similar way, my exploration into creating truly unique fractal art has been fascinating. I look forward to offering my artwork for sale, but more about that later.

Where it all began.

A look at my journey in photography

Casting my mind back I know I have always had a creative flair, but couldn't quite pinpoint when I became interested in photography. My sister remembers though, and kindly reminded me the other day over coffee. The story goes like this....

I'd been given a camera for Christmas way back when I was about 10. To me, it was the most wonderful gift in the world and I was very proud of it... It was an instamatic film camera, and not very expensive, but it was special, because it was mine! At the time, we were on a caravanning holiday in Tasmania, and it was mid summer. I left my camera on the parcel shelf in the back of the old ford on a very hot day. You can guess what happened I'm sure. When we got back to the car, there was my brand new camera a molten mass of grey plastic. My sister says I carried on like crazy, crying my eyes out and generally making a fool of myself... now I can't remember that bit! But I do know how disappointed I was. Not only had I lost the snapshots I'd taken, but I'd lost the means to take any more as well. That was pretty bad news to a 10 year old.

And so ... over the years, camera's came and went, and each time, I gradually upgraded to my very first Minolta SLR. Wow, that sure changed my concept of photography. I could suddenly manipulate my images, play with depth of field, and all the other cool things an SLR could do. I was so impatient to get my films back from processing.

Next came photography lessons and involvement in camera clubs, all the while learning and developing my photography skills. Now I'm old enough to be a grandma, and I'm finally putting all I have learned to good use, and it's wonderful. Progressing into the digital era with my Canon DSLR has opened even more avenues for creativity.

It's been a long slow process for me, but now I have a home studio, a digital darkroom (Lightroom and CS3) and I am producing stock photography as well as photographic and digital artwork for a very diverse market. It is very satisfying indeed and the journey goes on.

My adventure into the world of fantasy fractals.

Beautiful unique artwork of the digital kind.

My love affair with fractals started quite by accident. I had no idea how such beautiful images could be created, but I started experimenting with fractal software, never dreaming that I'd eventually be able to produce such amazing artwork. A lot of trial and error, many hours of late nights, tweaking and experimenting, and many 'not so good' results later, I started to work out how to create these incredible works of art.

You never know where a fractal is going to take you in the creation process, and this is what intrigues me so much. If you push the boundaries just a little bit more, you can end up with a mess, or you can find a rare jewel, an exquisite fantasy fractal like the one above. I look forward to sharing more of my fractal fantasies with you over the coming weeks.

There are several great fractal programs available including Apophysis, Ultrafractals and Tierazon. Creating fractals can become addictive, simply because the process of creating a fractal is a journey without a definded destination. You may have an idea of what you'd like to create, but your fractal journey may result in an amazingly detailed artwork that is far from what you had in mind, but which is beautiful and unique in itself. This is the fascination of fractals.

Bluewren08's Photo Album

A collection of my favourite images

We all have photo's that we have taken that mean something special to us. It could be a special moment, a special place, an instance in time that you have managed to capture in an image that touches your heart - here are some of mine...

I love the sense of peace in this image of a seagull effortlessly soaring against a blue sky. It reminds me of Jonathon Livingston Seagull.

I took this image of a mother blackbird and her three babies several years ago when she built her nest right outside my window. I know blackbirds are very common, but to watch the dedication of this mother blackbird tending to her chicks was something very special.

This image I call 'Inspired'. The spire of this ancient church, against a menacing sky seems to convey strength. Even though the structure is a ruin, it is still standing the test of time. This image was taken in Tasmania when I visited a couple of years back - great company, wonderful scenery and a photographer's paradise.

There is nothing like getting up close and personal with a macro lens. The tiny details in the world around us are amazing. It really is an incredible world we live in. Have you ever really looked closely at the stamens of a madonna lily? You might be surprised at what you see. If you don't have access to a macro lense, grab a magnifying glass!

Your photography is wonderful. I don't think I have the patience to create fractal art although I do enjoy making kaleidoscopic images from my own photographs and graphics.
