Blushing Anxiety Is Also Known as Social Anxiety

Social anxiety is a condition where people fear interactions with other people. They fear making fools of themselves in front of others. It is the 3rd largest psychological condition in the world. People with social anxiety have many different flavors of this condition and it can cause many different fears in a person. Blushing anxiety is only one of them. Some people fear talking on the phone to people they don't know, others fear talking to the grocer at the market, while others fear walking down the street since they feel that people are watching and judging them.

Blushing Anxiety Phobia = Erythrophobia

Erythrophobia is a fear of blushing. "Erythro" means red and "phobia" is an irrational and persistent fear. This can affect anyone and usually starts happening when the person is a teenager. Blushing anxiety can start at any age however and can be brought on by certain factors such as isolation or lack of human contact.

People with erythrophobia will usually have an episode which is so embarrassing (to them) where they turn very red for no reason and then they begin to fear that situation. It may be generalized where they blush at everything and anything but it can also be very specific. Whatever the trigger, it can cause great anxiety for the sufferer.

The good news is: there is help for anxiety and blushing. This is a VERY treatable condition but you need to put some effort into it. Here are some common treatments for blushing anxiety.

1) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a very common way to treat blushing. It uses a combination of therapy techniques and works to reshape the way that you think. It also uses exposure therapy.

2) Relaxation is very important and there are many different relaxation techniques out there to help with blushing fears. There is progressive relaxation, meditation, and yoga just to name a few.

3) Visualization works by having you visualize how you want your life to be like. You draw a picture in your mind or make a physical picture of how you want your life to be like. You then spend 5-10 minutes a day with this image in mind and focus all of your energy on this thought.
