"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy"

When Obi Wan Kenobi spoke those words of the Mos Eisley Spaceport, he must have assumed that the most ruthless and feared bounty hunter Boba Fett, was there.

Boba Fett is one of the most popular characters to come out of the Star Wars saga, and why that is no one is quite sure. It could be the armor, the ship, or the fact that Lord Vader gets right up into his face and says "You are free to use any methods necessary, but I want them alive. No disintegrations."

The Original Backstory

*The following article was printed in Sci-Fi Invasion! magazine in the Summer 0f 1997*

Long before the time of "Star Wars," the man who would become Boba Fett was a law enforcement officer-a "Journeyman Protector"-named Jaster Mereel. After killing on of his fellow officers, who was a corrupt Protector, Mereel was exiled from the world of Concord Down for the crime. Stripped of his rank and privileges as a Protector, Mereel disappeared.

At some point thereafter, Mereel entered the Imperial Academy, and served for an unspecified time as a Stormtrooper. His reasons for leaving the service of the Empire are unclear, but at some point after his departure he adopted the name and armor of Boba Fett, becoming an intergalactic bounty hunter. The armor itself was a modified version from the Mandalorian Supercommandos, a group of evil warriors defeated by the Jedi Knights during the Clone Wars. Their armor soon became rare and highly prized. It is currently unknown whether Mereel actually joined the ranks of the Mandalorians and changed his name, or whether he took the name and armor from one of the Supercommandos.

Slowly, Fett began to build a reputation as one of the better bounty hunters in the business. But that wasn't good enough for him; he was intent on being the best. No job was too dangerous, as long as the quarry was a criminal. Apparently, Fett didn't take assassination jobs on innocent sentients. He also didn't take jobs for the Rebel Alliance, foes of the Galactic Empire. Thanks to whatever code of honor he carried from his days as a Journeyman Proctector, Fett still had some ethics, twisted as they may have become.

Over the years, Fett became a favored hunter of various Hutt crime families, with Jabba the Hutt utilizing Fett's talents more than any other.

"He's no good to me dead."

His Original Fate

Here's an interesting tidbit for all you Fett fans out there; Boba Fett's fate was originally sealed when he fell into the Sarlacc pit on Tatooine.

George Lucas had no initial plans for the bounty to return amongst the living, but fan support made him change his mind.

The Original Man Under The Visor

Jeremy Bulloch

Born February 16, 1945 in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, England.

Bulloch is known mostly for his role as the feared bounty hunter Boba Fett in Episodes V and VI; he did also appear in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back as an Imperial officer on Cloud City and again in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith as Captain Colton aboard the blockade runner Tantive IV.

Not Bulloch

Mark Austin was the man under the armor in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Who Said That??

Well Jeremy Bulloch may have been the man under the armor, but he was not the voice. In fact that honor originally belonged to Jason Wingreen.

However since the most recent DVD release of the original trilogy, Jason Wingreen has been voiced over by Temuera Morrison (Jango Fett).

"What if he doesn't survive? He's worth a lot to me."

Young Fett

In Episode II: Attack of the Clones we learn that Boba Fett is a clone minus the age advancing gene and was raised on Kamino by his father, Jango Fett. After the lose of his father on Geonosis not much more is known about Boba Fett's childhood.

Little is known about his teenage years, although we do know that he was married to a woman named Sintas, had a child (a daughter named Ailyn), and was exciled. He didn't learn of his daughter until years later when she attempted to kill him.

It is rumored that a young Boba Fett may appear in the television series that is currently in production.

The young Boba Fett was played by Daniel Logan

Fett's Continued Story

Spoiler Alert

So what happened with Boba Fett after his escape from the Sarlacc on Tatooine?

Restablished his ruthless reputation, became Mandalore, helped save the universe from the Yuuzhan Vong, had his daughter Ailyn killed by Jacen Solo, learned he had a granddaughter named Mirta Gev, found his wife Sintas frozen in carbonite, and trained Jania Solo to prepare her to take on her brother Jacen.

Weapons

Boba Fett's favorite weapon is his sawed-off EE-3 Blaser Rifle, however his armor is full of surprises. His armaments include wrist lasers, rocket darts, miniature flame projector, and grappling lanyard.

Oh and let's not forget the jet pack with its housed missile.

Wikipedia

Boba Fett, portrayed and voiced by several actors, is a character in the Star Wars fictional universe. A bounty hunter hired by Darth Vader to track down the Millennium Falcon, he is the "next major villain" after Vader in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980).[1] Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) establishes that Boba Fett is a clone of Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison), a bounty hunter who raises Boba as a son. The Star Wars Expanded Universe expands on Fett's origins and career as a bounty hunter. Fett, the personification of "danger and mystery",[2] is a "cult figure"[3] and "one of the most popular characters in the entire Star Wars galaxy".[4]
