Will the Boston Celtics Win the Championship in 2010?

Ever since the Boston Celtics General Manager, Danny Ainge bit the bullet and traded for Ray Allen from Portland and traded for Kevin Garnett from Minnesota... the Boston Celtics rose from the ashes like the Phoenix.

You see, the Boston Celtics has literally been a graveyard for incompetence, frustration and dashed dreams of the diehard fans for decades.

Ever since Keven McHale, Robert Parish, Larry Bird, Dennis Johnson and... Danny Ainge left the team... there was nothing good to write home about the Celtics.

Then we had to deal with the deaths of Reggie Lewis and the unrealized potential of Len Bias...

And don't even get me started on Rick Pitino! That guy had one of the biggest egos in the world and traded anyone that wasn't nailed to the floor. I'm almost positive he would have traded the ball boys if given the chance.

Moving forward, they went from one of the worst teams in 2007 to the best team in 2008. Good times indeed...

So now we got the "new' big three and they defeated the L.A. Lakers for the 2008 Championship!

Latest Rumors and Transactions by the Boston Celtics 2009-20010

October 1st, 2009 - After a busy off season for the GM of the Celtics... Danny Ainge signed the big man unrestricted free agent, Rasheed Wallace and combo guard/forward Marquis Daniels (MD) from Indiana. Sadly, DA wasn't able to convince Larry Bird to do a trade so he could sign MD longer term.

Eddie House decided to hang around for another year... thank God for little favors! Glen Davis was returned to the fold... he was starting to show his potential in the playoffs... and here's another thing... it is going to be interesting to see if he is BETTER because he lost weight this summer. Lot's of weight.

We all know about Rajan Rondo's shooting woes. Well, it turns out that he was working on correcting his shot with Mark Price... that GREAT shooter from Indiana years ago.

The Boston Celtics had to let Leon Powe go because of the uncertainty of his knee and the desire to have healthy bodies this playoff... and signed Shelden Williams in his place. Hopefully, Shelden can resurrect his career after bouncing around the league the past couple of years.

But the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic also made some roster changes. It appears that the rich got richer in the NBA.

It all adds up to a very exciting season in the NBA... hopefully the dudes from the Boston squad will be filling in that blank banner up on the wall in 2010!!

That would be the 18th championship for the Boston Celtics....

Latest Rumors and Transactions by the Boston Celtics

February 17th - Sam "I Am" Cassell, a 39 year old point guard that hasn't played a minute for the Celtics this year was traded to the Sacramento Kings for a heavily protected 2nd round pick.

Why?

Well, it could be possible the Danny Ainge is clearing out a roster spot to pick up someone after the trade deadline... We'll see with baited breath! Would that be the talented but crazy point guard from New York Knicks, Stephon Marbury?

February 19th - Oklahoma Thunders just rescinded the Chandler/Smith trade with the Charlotte Hornets. There is a possibility that OKC will just waive Joe Smith. And a close source said that Joe wants to play for the Celtics in the role that P.J. Brown did last year?

February 24th - Mikki Moore signed with the Celtics for the remainder of this season. And before we get excited... a Sacramento Kings blogger compared Mikki as "Mark Blount" bad. Dry heaves I'm hoping the Celtics system can bring out a better Mikki but I don't think this guy is better than P.J. Brown.

February 24th - It looks like Stephon Marbury finally swallowed some pride and negotiated a buy out of his onerous contract with the NY Knicks. I read a rumor that many of the Celtics were calling on Stephon last week to urge him to "quit screwin' around and come on over to help us out now." And the rumors are also saying Stephon WILL sign with the Celtics for the remainder of the season too.

Good lord almighty! If Stephon can get close to his potential, the Celtics may suffer from an embarrassment of riches. Can you imagine 48 MINUTES of premier point guard penetration and dishing out the rock???!!!

February 27th - It happened... Stephon Marbury was signed for the prorated vet minimum on Friday morning and suited up for the shorthanded Celtics against the Indiana Pacers that night. He didn't do bad... 8 points, 2 assists, 3 turnovers in 13 minutes. Considering that Steph hasn't played a game since the preseason... not bad at all. He might be pretty good once he gets his legs. Here's hoping that he leaves all the distractions behind in NY and plays some ball.

April 10th - Wow... we are only 5 games away from the end of the season... and what a season it turned out to be so far! Boston got hit by the injury bug... BAD! For a week or so... Boston only had 3 big men suited up to play games... and yet... Boston still managed to keep winning games... but not as well as last year when Boston won the home court advantage for the playoffs. So for the current injury report... Kevin and Leon were shut down for weeks to heal their aching knees. Brian Scal had a couple of concussions and I think quite frankly, since it took so long for Brian to recover from them... I'm concerned. He would do well to retire... I hope you are listening Brian... your wife and young daughter wants a daddy around them... In other news... Tony Allen seems to be getting back after a minor surgery on his hand. Hopefully, by the time the first playoff game begins... everyone is back! Catch you on the next update...

April 16th - We were all waiting for the other shoe to drop... and with a LOUD thud... Doc Rivers said that Kevin Garnett won't be playing in the playoffs... due to knee problems. Well, there is always next year... because not even the most optimistic Celtic fan can admit that the present Celtics can be Lebron's Cavs or even the Lakers... crap... it is gonna be a long off-season for us...

June 25thWith the 58th pick in the 2009 NBA draft... the Celtics General Manager, Danny Ainge selects... Lester Hudson... a 24 year old 6 something combo guard that lead the nation in scoring for small colleges. Danny and Doc River both say he is a tough kid and a strong scorer... whatever that means.

Here is some fun stats for you... generally speaking... players selected that late in the NBA draft has less than a 3% chance of making it.

Good luck Lester... you are gonna need it. Who knows? Perhaps we will all be pleasantly surprised!

July 6-10 - Oh yeah, this year the Celtics are going to field a team in the Orlando Summer league. I'm guessing we will see some Billy "Skywalker" Walker, J.R. Giddens, Gabe Pruitt and of course, the new kid... Lester Hudson. Should be fun. I hear that the games will be shown over the Internet so we can check them out...

July 5 - Breaking news! Apparently the full court press of the Big three plus the coach, GM, and the Managing Partner works... Rasheed Wallace just committed to signing with the Boston Celtics for the next 2 years at MLE... about $5.6 to 5.8 million per year. I think Rasheed took a pay cut for a GREAT chance to win a championship. Next up... 37 year old Grant Hill?

Is Kevin Garnett Crazy or Just Intense?

Kevin's nickname is "The Big Ticket"

Well, if you watched all the Boston Celtic games like I have the past year and half... you'll notice that Kevin Garnett does some things that are well, challenging to explain to a fan from another team. Or to someone that doesn't like sports.

He does the bear crawl at the half court... he screams at his teammates when they don't play up to his high standards and actually made one cry... He hits them too when they dunk the ball and get fouled! But in a good way of course... And he uses salty language that would embarrass a sailor on the court.

But this dude makes about 24 million dollars per year! And with a little math... he makes about 300,000 FRICKIN' DOLLARS PER GAME!

To put this in perspective... Kevin Garnett isn't just a very good basketball player... he is an entertainer... equivalent to a music star...

Obviously he must be worth it to the owners of the Boston Celtics... he brings in the advertising dollars and prestige back to Boston. And not only that... he is part of the team that added banner #17 to the rafters.

My Top 3 Basketball Movies to Watch!

In my opinion... "Hoosiers" was the BEST basketball movie ever made and I will not argue about it! If you never watched it... you need to drop everything and get this movie immediately! It is that good...

Some of you may not know that Ray Allen actually was in a movie called, "He Got Game."

I really enjoyed the basketball part of the Sean Connery movie, "Finding Forrester."

The Sharp Shooter from the University of Conneticut - Ray Allen

Ray's nickname is "Jesus" ... Not to be confused with Larry Bird's "The Basketball Jesus"

Ray Allen's jump shoot is like poetry in motion. It is just a pure pleasure to watch for anyone who believes in basketball fundamentals.

Some of you may not know that Ray has a borderline case of obsessive compulsive disorder. It is probably not bad enough to require medical care... but enough to drive his teammates bonkers sometimes!

But Ray has credited his special condition to his shooting style and his approach to each game.

Ray has also appeared in two movies. And got his nickname "Jesus" from one of them.

Still the best team in the NBA

That is Just Crazy Talk! They are Not Until They Win at Least 3 Championships!

Nobody could beat Bird! ...at least until that back flared up

MCCALLTODD says:

Show me the rings. These new guys are good, but I don't think they can quite measure up to the Bird era.

MattTaylor says:

I'm a purist. I grew up watching Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish win all those games and championships. I wouldn't consider the new guys until they win two more championship.

What Does the Boston Team's Unofficial Motto... "Ubunto" Mean?

Good question... It is an African word that literally means that people can only find fulfillment through interacting with others. And this word is actually a philosophy with the Boston Celtics teammates...

They talk to each other during the game... let each other know that they got each other's back on the defense.

I can tell you this though... obviously, the Boston Celtics has something that is really rare among teams in the NBA... everybody on the Celtics like each other and get along...

Kevin Garnett , Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen

Kevin Garnett , Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen Photo
This poster would look great on your wall!

One of the Best Offensive Basketball Player in the NBA Today is Paul Pierce

Paul can be called "The Captain" or "The Truth"

If there was one thing that Rick Pitino did right... that would be drafting Paul Pierce 10th in the 1998 NBA draft.

Paul was quoted that he was going to make the teams that drafted everyone else in front of him "pay."

And that is exactly what he is doing now... Paul is becoming known as clutch in the fourth quarter... or taking the tough or winning shots in the closing seconds.

Some of you may not know this... but Paul Pierce was attacked in the bar in the month of September, 2000 and stabbed 11 times. He was just that close to dying.

And the amazing thing was this... Paul started all 82 games for the season! But for the Boston Celtics fans... that wasn't a surprise because Paul is known for toughness and high pain threshold.

The L.A. Lakers know all about that when Paul suffered a knee injury in the first game of the Championship Series in 2008. He was carried off in great pain. A few minutes later... who do you think came running out of the locker room to lead the Celtics to victory?

No wonder Paul is known as "The Truth."

(By the way, it was Shaq O'Neal that gave Paul this nickname back in 2001)

Well, there is always Keven Garnet's knee... or "The Knee" as I like to call it. Somehow, the Celtics management hasn't been trustworthy with information and nobody really knows exactly what is going on with KG. I can say this... if the Celtics are healthy in the playoffs... I like our chances! :)

thanks for the compliments and for writing to me,

    Matt :)
