Why Botox is Potentially Dangerous, Overated and Should be Taken off the Market

Are you a Botox user or considering getting Botox treatments? The information provided here about the dangers of Botox may make you think twice. The first time I heard of Botox injections. I thought that does not sound like a good idea. Botulinum toxin safe? Not likely. I am no scientist so what do I know. Well it seems there was some truth to my reasoning with the lastest news on dangers with the product from the FDA. Why would anyone want to have injections in their face by choice? How uncomfortable! I am not a fan of wrinkles and frown lines either. In this age of the never ending search for beauty men and women have gone to great lengths to stay young. But at what cost? More important than financial costs, what about their own health and safety. We are constantly hearing of FDA approved medications gone bad. Not to mention many that bring harm to consumers. Botox may not be plastic surgery but it is not without its own risks. The FDA is reviewing this product and requiring the maker to make changes to its label warnings.

It is true that the majority of people who get Botox and similar drugs don't get botulism. But some cases are starting to show up, particularly in children being treated for cerebral palsy. The adverse reactions to Botox can include: Respiratory, serious heart problems and serious allergic reactions.

What is Botox Anyway???


Botox Cosmetic is an injection treatment administered by a doctor for treatment of frown lines between the brows. It works by reducing the contractions of the muscles that cause frown lines that develop over a period of time.

Botox uses low level Botulism A. Botulinum toxins block the signals that would normally tell your muscles to contract. It is related to Botulism, a form of food poisoning that happens when eating something containing a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin A is one of the neurotoxins produced by Clostridium botulinum.

Botox was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for cosmetic use in April 2002. Previously it's main use was for the treatment of medical conditions since 1989.

I think I have heard everything now. A mother gives her daughter Botox before pageants. Her excuse, her daughter asks for it. She claims it a regular practice among pageant moms, which is being denied by those in the industry. The little girl states it makes her look better and she does not like wrinkles. The mom also injects herself with Botox. According to a doctor, Botox injected in the face if it reaches the throat can cause problems with swallowing/breathing. The child welfare in San Francisco has been notified and is looking into whether this mom has endangered her child. See the link below under 'Related News' for the story.................

A couple on Dr. Oz's show stated they ended up on life support for 3 months after Botox injections that turned out the be the full Botulism poison!

Bad reactions seem to be related to when the toxin spreads to areas away from the site of injection, and resemble symptoms of botulism

Weakness
Breathing problems.
Even respiratory failure and death.

I agree. For the FDA to endorse (or allow) anyone to poison themselves in the name of money or vanity is just not right. There is a certain beauty that goes with age that is totally under rated in this modern world.

Some may say all medications carry some risk. But personally I want to avoid unnecessary risks. There are many effective and safer topical cosmetics available to improve appearance. And if Botox is a risk to children with cerebral palsy, a safer treatment should be found.

    I understand your concern but with today's medical technology I think Botox is a very safe procedure for every one. Just be sure to choose the best surgeon and facility and you will fine.

    Non surgical treatments are a great alternative to cosmetic surgery but people tend to forget that we are still talking about Medical Procedure.
    Instead of banning botox we people should be more careful when they select the practitioner!
