Some Of The Reasons To Boycott The Olympic Games
Proof that the Olympic Games have to stop.
There are many reasons and they increase every year as to why we should boycott the Olympic Games.
Such reasons include the outrageous cost of hosting the Olympic Games. In times of global economic crisis is right to expect countries to spend the hundreds of millions dollars preparing for the monstrosity that they Olympics have become?
Countries in the two-thirds world could have their national debt wiped out for less than the cost of hosting an Olympic Games. Has it not become something of a farce?
With the cost being so astronomical the Olympics have become something of an elitist event, where only a small handful of nations can afford to host the Games (or that host the games even if they can not afford to). Is the spirit of the Olympics not such that any country should be able to host the games?
The accountability of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is non-existent. They answer only to themselves - even a watchdog committee set up to call them to account is controlled by the chairman of the IOC. Corruption has infiltrated the IOC in the past and there is nothing to stop it happening again.
Western nations boycotted the 1980 Moscow games because of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, but now it is these same countries who are occupying Afghanistan. If we are to be consistent then that alone is reason enough to call for a boycott of the London Olympics.
Have the Olympics just got too big, too costly, and too politically motivated to continue in our modern world?
While someone is making money from their existence they won't stop - unless we unite and call for a stop with one voice.
