The light was red, but road was slick and when Jim put on the brakes, he was driving too fast and his truck just wouldn't stop. When he hit Susan's little Subaru, there wasn't anything he could do to change the events he had put in motion. Ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, reporters and onlookers turned the ordinarily quiet town in North Carolina into a Hollywood-esque landscape of confusion and chaos. Then came months of physical therapy and speech therapy so she could relearn the things she'd lost due to the damage. Walking, using her hands easily again, talking, and even eating were all things Susan had to relearn in her healing process.
