The Importance of a Strong Brand Image
What do you think of when you imagine a big yellow M?Or five overlapping silver rings?
How about an apple with a bite missing?
These are all examples of brand whose visual appeal is just as important as their product.
This is the aim of any branding consultant.

Big Changes at the Hut
In an attempt to distance themselves from fast food outlets, Pizza Hut has announced that it will be changing the names of some of their restaurants to Pasta Hut.An online poll displayed on their website implies that the name change isn't very popular with customers, however, with the story featured in many newspapers, magazines and blogs (even this very Squidoo lens!) it seems that even if it is temporary, the exercise has certainly created a lot of publicity for the company.
I'm just glad that they still sell pizza!
Is 'Snickers' better than Marathon in the long run?
(Get it?!)

Snickers bars were introduced to the market in the 1930s as a follow up to the hugely succesful Mars Bar. The bar was named 'Snickers' after the Mars family's horse. The UK and Ireland were the only regions of the world where the chocolate bar was sold under the name of 'Marathon'. To create uniformity around the world, the Mars Group decided to change the name to 'Snickers' in 1990. It was a gradual standardisation as since 1988, the words: "Internationally known as Snickers" were printed on the side of the Marathon wrapper.
The name change was a success as following the re-brand, the bar went from being Britain's ninth most popular bar to the third.

Bad Branding Ideas
What do you think of the way that they ridiculed their previous offering and admitted that their original idea was a failure?
A brave way to start afresh or a stupid of insulting existing customers?
