Let's Meditate

I recently started my journey into meditation during the latter period of 2009. I have now reaped the benefits and would like to urge others who may be skeptical to exercise meditation on a regular basis.

Meditation can have a religious aspect allowing the body to achieve a higher state of spirituality and is practiced in almost all major religions such as Christianity, Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism and Islam, etc.. Prayer is considered a form of meditation and so is chanting. However, you can take a secular view of meditation by simply using it for relaxation. It's up to you how you choose to meditate.

Chakra uses colors to calm the body and mind. You compartmentalize different aspects of your body into colors and slowly relax each part. This is my favorite form of meditation because it has never failed to soothe me.

Chanting Meditation

There are many variations for chant but it primarily applies to the sense of sound while many other methods concentrate on visualization. Verbally meditating allows you to further interact this is a great method for those who feel restless. Some examples are buddhist, gregorian and hindu.

Guided Meditation

An instructional form which primarily concentrates on imagery and positive reinforcement to relieve stress. Often times you will relax each part of the body independantly until your entire body becomes fully relaxed.

The yoga mat

Yoga mats are also great for meditation and I feel they increase the benefits significantly. I highly suggest buying one for the added comfort in the meantime you can always lie in bed, on a couch or sit cross-legged on the floor if you are able to use these positions.

Great Resource to Center Yourself

Please be advised if you are Christian and are offended by non-believers you will probably not enjoy this link. I have gained a wealth of knowledge from this site. It has also enabled me to switch my mood when I was dealing with difficult challenges. I highly recommend it to those who are open to different opinions on religion.
Osho Meditation
Osho International Foundation deals with controversial subjects but I personally was able to feel more centered and confident after listening to their commentaries on meditation.

    Nice lens! I'm somewhat of a meditation fan -- I do yoga, which is sometimes called "meditation in motion" -- good for those of us who have a hard time sitting still for seated meditation! My husband, on the other hand, meditates at least 30 minutes a day.
