What you do is that you breath deep into you tummy or diaphragm which is below your chest. You should not breath into your chest. Relaxing on a regular basis starts to inhibit the production of stress hormones in the body making it harder and harder for the body to panic. As you practice and become more generally relaxed the "baseline" of arousal from which the panic starts lowers. Meaning that it is becoming harder and harder to get stressed.
